Good Monday, everyone. Temps are actually bordering on the normal side of the thermometer today. In a weather world gone mad, you know this won’t last very long. We have a small taste of winter in the days ahead, then we run the risk of record highs this weekend and early next week.
Highs today are generally in the 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. Ok, that’s enough of the normal part of the program.
Highs on Tuesday will hit the 50s as winds crank ahead of a strong system diving in from the northwest. This system will have a push of winter behind it, and tries to pick up a southern stream system. Odds continue to favor this as being “close but no cigar”…
Some snow showers and flurries can kick in for a bit, as winds become northwesterly.
The shot of cold behind that is in and out of town quickly, leaving the door wide open for a SERIOUS surge of spring. Highs by Friday will likely go deep into the 50s.
Weekend numbers can hit 70 or better and carry us into Monday…
With a deep trough working into the Mississippi Valley shortly thereafter, could a severe weather signal show up?
That’s a negative tilt showing up on that bad boy. If that look continues, expect more severe weather talk in the coming days.
I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Chris the blog not much fun reading about severe weather just don’t do much for me I know you got to post what out there but sure not much fun reading your updates
Not fun for winter anyways…It has been the same broken record…”March weather continues…” We have been in March since Thanksgiving.
Though we still have about 4 weeks give ot take, regionwide, we are on target to set many record lowest annual snowfall totals.
In my opinion, this has been worse than 2012 winter season.
I couldn’t agree more. The blog has been like an extended funeral for Old Man Winter. I think 2012 was the year when a lot of the area was green by the end of March. It could be sooner this year.
Two things I like about the 70’s. I was younger then and its warm. You notice more people out and about to. No rain or snow for Southern Ohio this week. Maybe it will dry up some.
No one can tell what is going to happen in the weather. It is all speculation. Enjoy the sunshine today!
Wrong!!!!!
This winter has to be one of dullest winter on record for our part of world.
Is winter pretty much over?
Not that it ever really began…
Severe weather posts….You got my attention!!
Already one confirmed tornado this year in Kentucky, near Cadiz in western KY on February 7.
Most minimum word in the winter blog word cloud: Snow.
If backloaded winter means spring days like we have had a lot of lately, I’m all for it…yawn meter is retired til next winter, was going to retire it in November, but held out on hope haha
Lackloaded is more apt 😉
The so called back loaded Winter. Only shot blanks.
It’s not over yet. Some places in Kentucky only need an inch of snow for it to be a back loaded winter.
Everything is relevant 🙂
This is pretty remarkable.. At this point I’m just hoping everything doesn’t bust out and get killed by a big cold shot later on.
I agree with your comment, as that is exactly what happened in 2012. As it stands today… there are trees budding here already and yes, I kid you not, I will have to mow no later than mid March unless there is a drastic change. I truly believe this will go down as the warmest winter in modern recorded history.
Don’t know what you mean by modern, but a record is a record no matter how old it is.
Louisville…47.6 (1890)
Lexington…43.9(1932)
Bowling Green…47.7 (1932)
(Dec-Feb…Winter season)
While I do not dispute a top ten finish, which has become the norm during the last few years, I do believe the records above will continue to stand.
Interestingly, 2016 for Louisville and Lexington was recorded as a top ten warmest season for winter, spring, summer, and fall. No other years in the top ten fell in all 4 seasons.
Chris, your blog is my go to weather place so I can get an idea of what is coming up during the next few days and the week ahead. While the winter has been a bust, I enjoy your commentary. Maybe we will get a surprise snow, but it looks like the chances are dwindling. Bring on spring!
“Bring on Spring” does not work.
Yeah that would be like “Bring on 2017”
Spring is here for the weekend, can’t wait. Bye bye winter. Well actually you never showed up
