Good evening, everyone. We have a couple of systems ready to bring a glancing blow of weather to the state over the next few days. This will knock the temps down for a few days, but the focus is on a major blast of February warmth by the weekend into early next week.
Our southern system zips eastward later tonight into Tuesday, bringing some showers across the southern half of Kentucky…
Winds will be gusty as temps range from the mid and upper 40s south, to the low 50s across the north. Colder air then filters in behind a cold front into Wednesday.
That cold will not hold and will get booted out of here VERY quickly. Temps by Friday may hit 60 degrees and it’s up, up and away from there.
The only drawback could come on Saturday with enough moisture to create a shower or two…
Highs will hit the 60s on Saturday, then surge toward the 70s for Sunday into Monday. That happens with a big ridge of high pressure into the region…
Record high temps could be threatened during this time.
The jet stream takes a big dip in the west and that trough rolls eastward into the middle of next week. Several models now cut that upper level system off, instead of brining the full trough in here…
If that is indeed the case, it would lead to unsettled weather with showers and strong storms, but the mild weather would continue.
I know many of you still want snow. While I haven’t been among you for nearly 2 months now (I still love snow, but and have been in spring mode since Christmas), I’m still looking for chances showing up. Right now, it’s a struggle to even find the chance.
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Have yet another great track, and now a low to north blocking the cold air. Just can’t catch a break, maybe one more shot around the end of the month. #NotMyWinter #Sad
LOL! My wife is the opposite and posted on Facebook…”#NotMyGroundhog…” when the 6 more weeks of winter was predicted…which obviously is not going to happen now anyways!
CB is pretty good at sniffing out a snow and when he can’t find hope the odds are not good. Just going to have to enjoy the nice weather and be thankful that we got to enjoy a Florida type winter without the added cost of travel.
I’m with you, Bobt. May as well start working on the flower beds this weekend since the daffodils are about to bloom. Maybe I can start on my tan 🙂
Been in spring mode since Christmas????? That’s the beginning of winter. I guess CB wasn’t down with this winter at all.
And there you have it from the boss folks. Time to give up on your foolish hopes of snow.
Spring is here and looks to stick around until Summer, which will begin promptly in April with 90 degree temps (at least for those of us in the southern counties).
Guess that “back loaded winter” went poof! Oh well, can’t win them all. Come to think of it, we haven’t won even ONE this winter! Worst ever! Rodger in Dodger
All of the long range models are showing warm weather through February into early March. I wanted at least 1 good snow (6 inches or more that sticks around for 4-5 days), but that is`nt going to happen. In Shepherdsville we have had a couple of dustings, but they didnt add up to an inch. If we do get a snow, it will be here during the night and gone by the afternoon.
Oh well, the allergy sufferers wont like April and May, plus the insects will be doubled compared to last year. I guess we`ll see what happens next year.
In SE KY, the trees/flower growth is actually a bit ahead of 2012…be interesting to see but I am thinking we may have some trees start blooming next week in my area as the may buds are already opening on the pear trees! I wonder if March will be like 2012 with the 80s or if winter will try to fight back enough to make it a miserable”4th month of March.”
The main buds…not may buds.
Only if we could see those GFS snow total diagrams.
That would relieve us from our funk. LOL
I think I have “frameaphobia” lol…nothing I hate more concerning weather diagrams than those useless GFS 2 week plus frames.
In my 66 years here on earth I’ve never seen a winter like this either. Here in Southern Ohio it has snowed about 7 to 8 inches of snow total since November. And most of it did not stick around long. Will take those 70’s though.
7 or 8 inches! Wow – just 100 miles south we have 1/2 inches total…
what happened to the back loaded winter that was advertised recently?
I think it went bye bye gone
Well, looks like this will be the lowest snowfall total I have ever seen in KY. 1/2 inch total for my part of Richmond. In all of my years I have only seen one year worse – that was no snow at all, not even a dusting. But that wasn’t in KY…
Will 16 – 17 go down as the season without a winter?
This was bound to happen after 3 years in a row of above normal snowfall you get spoiled. So were eating humble pie. It happens, its all about averages.
Possible record breaking temperatures this weekend, followed by a slight cooling with rain, and more warmth. By then it will be February 21. There is always the chance of a March snow, but we’ll see.
Let’s just pray we don’t get blasted with a lot of storms with heavy rain…not good for a decent garden..
