Good Wednesday, folks. We have a small shot of winter impacting parts of the state today, but the real focus is on another big time surge of spring air. This arrives later this week and kicks into high gear this weekend and early next week. Can we get to record highs? That’s a possibility.
Our southern storm continues to push to our east and southeast today. It’s bringing some rain and wet snow to the southeast, and some slushy accumulations may be noted to begin the day in the high mountains. For the rest of the area, a passing flurry is possible with temps in the upper 30s and low 40s,
Milder air then pushes in quickly on Thursday with readings hitting the upper 40s east to the low 50s in the west. Those numbers continue to climb on Friday with upper 50s to low 60s in most areas. Skies stay mainly sunny.
A weak system moves in by Saturday and should bring scattered showers our way…
Temps will be in the 60s. From there, temps get ready to take off from Sunday through Wednesday (at least). Record high temperatures are possible as a big ridge of high pressure dominates our weather…
Highs should reach the 70s and I’m honestly wondering if parts of the state can make a run at 80 degrees. This is a very extreme pattern that is biased very, very, very warm through next week.
Does that mean we are totally done with winter? Nope…
This is not going to go harmlessly into true spring… It’s just not.
I will update things later today. Have a good day and take care.
I just wish this winter was over I’m so tired of waiting on it to show up
This. We had some cold spikes and sustained cold during December, but all considered one of the wimpiest for winter weather. THE wimpiest for snow since i have lived here.
Hopefully spring is near!
I recall back in March 1960 after very warm February with temperatures in the upper 70’s. Around, the 5th of March the temperature dropped to the upper 30’s and begin to drizzle, which quickly change over to snow and turned into one of the biggest snowstorms in my life time. Around, 2 feet of snow was on the ground and the temperature bottom out at 5 below zero. Three days later, a second storm brought more heavy snow. It didn’t warm up until early April and that spring was late and stormy. I remember one storm with lots of hail.
Can March be our winter this year? Wouldn’t that be something.
Spring has been here since January with no end in sight. I love it! Thanks for the updates Chris. You’re my go to weather guy!
AMEN to that!
Correction. Spring type weather has been here.
MarchWinter! A new season! I’ll take it!
So the BIG question here to CB and the other met lovers out there…. does it look like a possibility for a noteworthy snow in March?
Holding onto hope in WV!
At this point if we do come through on the very slim possibility of snow in the next few weeks, ground temps will be so warm, it will be gone bout as fast as it arrives. Lets just enjoy the spring weather LOL
Sounds like a plan! Thanks Jim
“Not going to go harmlessly into true spring”…does this mean chances of snow still out there OR alluding to severe potential in the transition?
Locations just northwest of Bangor, ME got buried under 40 more inches of snow in just 29 hours. An additional 4-10″ is expected through tomorrow. That means some areas will have received more than 5 feet of snowfall in the past week. These are not in mountainous areas either.
I have given up on this “winter/” If I had a vote I would rather we just move on into Spring. We had a very early Spring a few years back. I am hoping for a repeat.
Sorry, but another predicted cold snap isn’t going to convince Rodger that anything resembling true winter is coming. What about the Ensembles that three weeks ago showed a lot of snow? What about the back-loaded winter? Maybe it pans out but the ducks haven’t even been on the pond this winter. Early next week will have everyone in spring mode. Rodger in Dodger
Agreed with everything you said Rodger.
