Good Friday to one and all. Our big surge of spring is taking over our weather pattern out there today and will hang tough for the next week. This could eventually put temps into near record high territory. Does this mean winter is toast? Nope.
Highs today will range from the upper 50s to near 60 in the east with low and middle 60s in the central and west. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny as southwesterly winds begin to crank.
Saturday’s weather will be tricky with a weak system moving in during the afternoon and evening. That will likely bring scattered showers to much of the state…
Highs ahead of that system can hit 60-65 before dropping into the 50s as the drops fall.
Clouds and a stray shower may linger into Sunday morning, but skies clean up during the afternoon as temps really take off. Low 70s will be likely in the west with 65-70 degrees across the rest of the state.
Near record highs then be possible for Monday and Tuesday.
Another system then develops across the south and may throw enough juice our way for some midweek showers and thunderstorms…
Once that rolls through here, highs by late Thursday and Friday can get a little out of control. That happens on a STRONG southwesterly flow ahead of a pattern changing storm system rolling in next weekend…
That will likely unleash a much colder pattern as we close out February and say hello to March.
I will update things later today. Enjoy the day and take care.
Glad, that the state of California is out of the drought. The question is, what area of the country will develop the next major drought. My speculation is that it will be in the Midwest and Southeast like we had back in the late 1980’s.
Very well remember that Lynn, if I remember right it went on for two years.
The Southeast already had a major drought last year that caused all the wildfires that spread over Tennessee and North Carolina. Much of the Southeast continues in moderate to severe drought to this day.

And it will soon spread back north into southeast Ky if we don’t get significant rain here the next few weeks..
Spring is springing. Looking forward to these temps!
But aren’t we already supposed to be in the middle of the dreaded back end winter right now? (per the daily mentions since late January). I wonder if this is the weather version of being a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan?
Back loaded winter has pretty much ran out of time. Average temps just run too high in March to get any type of prolonged cold. Not saying we wont get smacked with a big snow, buy it’s highly doubtful we will see any significant cold streak.
Is there a country song with “Put a fork in it”? If not, there should be one for this winter here. That said, the song could be sung way before now.
Be careful Bubba, that could be construed as arrogance or annoying by some, even though you are correct LOL. Enjoy the spring weekend ahead!
Nah we like BubbaG he’s a good ole country boy. Some of us just not a fan of Jim B the yawn meter clown lol
I can live with that
Thanks Chris. Everyone here at work is talking about this weather and how much they are liking it. I don’t mind a little warmth helping out the electric bill but I DO mind the trees getting a false signal and starting to try to get buds, and early flowers. You are talking about a pattern changer next weekend going back to cold weather to start March. I’ve told them we will pay for this early spring tease. They don’t believe me. But one way or another, we WILL pay for the nice we are having now. Too warm too quickly! Sorry folks, I call ’em like I see ’em. Have a great Friday everyone.
I believe you. We will get paid back for this nice weather one way or another…whether it be a week of extreme cold that kills the flowers and tree buds which are coming on strong now, or a Spring with heavy damaging storms and rain 5 out of 7 days for weeks on end. However, in no stretch of my imagination at this point do I think there is more than a 5% chance of a big snow event…maybe a skiff to an inch at most.
You are spot on Coffeelady! You gotta think the roller coaster will zap us with a cold snap before real spring arrives. Saw lots of top down convertibles today.
It’s superstition to say that blooming plants cause cold snaps.
Wonder what factor has had the most play in keeping this Winter non existent? Gulf of Alaska not as warm as first thought , Southeast ridge being so dominant, lack of a strong Canadian high pressure, etc… Been since 1959 that Louisville has had such little snow for February. Been a sad depressing Winter for us snow lovers!!!
I would like to see the explanation for this too. Chris, when you do an update and since nothing is happening in our weather at all, you could post something about this? Thanks
Curious as to the specifics as well.
