Good Saturday, everyone. If April showers bring May flowers, what will today’s February showers bring for March? Given how warm our temperatures have been, I think that’s a valid question. 🙂 We have even warmer air on the way in the days ahead, but colder changes are showing up by next weekend.
Today’s an interesting day in terms of temps. Readings range from the 60s outside of showers to the 50s for those getting in on the drops. The shower action increases this afternoon into the evening…
The rain moves away later tonight with clouds lingering into the start of Sunday. As the clouds scoot on out of there, sunny skies take over with thermometers really taking off. Highs range from the low and mid 70s in the west, to the mid and upper 60s in the east.
Monday looks even warmer with highs in the 70s for the entire region. That’s when record highs could fall.
A system across the south will then throw showers and thunderstorms our way late Tuesday into Wednesday…
With clouds and some thunder around, temps will come down some, but still be very mild.
A potent storm system then moves our way later Friday into Saturday, and this looks like a pattern changer and one that can be a severe weather maker. Here’s the GFS…
The Canadian…
Strong thunderstorms and gusty winds will be followed by colder temps and maybe some snowflakes. That should help take us into a colder pattern to end February and begin March. It’s also one that is loaded with storm systems impacting our region. You can clearly see that on the precipitation totals over the next 2 weeks…
I will have another update later today. Make it a good day and take care.
Looking forward to those warm temps Sunday on my bday! Huge winter/snow lover but I have gave up on it, bring on spring!
Winter is over folks. Might still get a whopper of a snow, but going to see more 50+ days instead of cold days. Average highs just become too much to run through any prolonged cold spells. Might have a few days in the 40s scattered out, but spring is pretty much here. With February ending in a blowtorch, our window for “real” cold is over. Enjoy the warmth.
Trying to keep winter alive this year is like keeping a dead horse alive on life support just so it can beat some more…let’s move on as there is nothing showing up on the long range that suggests true winter cold locking in but it shows some temps like what you just mentioned!
That’s just typical March weather in Kentucky. Might get a couple of days with highs in the low 40s , but never going to get long stretches of cold. This has been one odd winter. Can’t think of maybe three days in a row of what you would consider cold days. I don’t think I’ve had frost on my windshield maybe a handful of times.
My vote is for a backloaded winter every year, this is awesome…enjoy folks
Colder pattern this winter = 1 1/2 days of mild cold.
It’s been a very unique winter, and will definitely go down in history with a few records such as number of days above 32 in January, lack of snow, and general mild temperatures. Winter so far has probably made it easier on elderly people who perhaps can’t get out as much in snow and cold. For those who live with a tight budget, the low heating costs are a plus.
*Correction: Winter never even started. Even if it did, every winter goes down in history technically. Too many people over-exalting this pattern as unprecedented when in reality, there have been +QBO/PAC jet dominating winters resulting in below average snowfall. It happens. Let’s chill out and considers the odds of a similar teleconnection setup next year is extremely low. At any rate, with “winter” you win some and lose some. This decade should have taught us this by now.
100% Agree. Great post, Cameron.
Nice post, but never start by announcing a correction. This winter has broken a couple of records and has many people talking albeit negative in most cases.
I know right. How often does California have 10+ inches of rain in a month! Even southern California. This has been an unusual winter – not just for us. That state needed every bit of that rain even with all of the short-term problems it causes. If any part of that state is still in drought, I’ll be surprised.
Gonna be yet another typical upcoming tropical KY Spring. Rain , rain, and more rain, followed by 90 degree days starting somewhere around late April. Unfortunately, if any of us would prefer a normal season, whether it be winter, spring, or fall we’ll have to move to another state. However if excessive heat and humidity is your liking for summer, you’re in the right location.
