Good Sunday, everybody. Here’s hoping this post finds each of you enjoying life to the fullest. Our weather looks much better out there today, but the week ahead is going to be another busy one as March roars in like a lion. We will track another big storm system that unleashes some more cold air.
Temps early today are in the 20s, but will recover into the upper 40s to middle 50s across the state. Skies will feature more sun than clouds, but you should see a steady stream of high clouds moving in from the west by evening.
Those clouds are ahead of a very light shower maker zipping quickly in here on Monday.Temps with this will warm into the upper 50s to low 60s for many. Winds will also increase as much warmer air then surges in Monday night and Tuesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may accompany our warm front, but the main action comes ahead of another potent storm.
This develops farther south and east than what we had a few days ago and this may put our region into the Tennessee Valley at risk for severe weather…
Some heavy rainfall totals will be possible with this system. The models have been consistently showing a 1″-3″ rainfall for much of our region.
Much colder air then sweeps in behind the departing for Thursday with some wraparound snowflakes possible. This sets the stage for a clipper system diving into the Ohio Valley on Friday…
That may have a period of light snow and flurries with it to go along with 30s for highs. Thanks, March!
Temps should warm quickly into next weekend, but another cold shot may roll our way early the following week. These cold shots and warm shots doing battle are going to cause some issues in the coming weeks.
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
Weather street shows a large anticyclone in the upper levels in the southeast. This model shows all the storm systems breaking up before reaching our area. Good news if this model is correct. Also, shows colder air moving in for most of March. Have a good day.
Well for fun and giggles!! The 06z run of the GFS this morning has a snowstorm for the TN valley on the anniversary of the March 93′ superstorm!! It actually has snow falling to the Florida panhandle on the 14th! As crazy as it may sound it did happen back then on the 13, and 14th. But the run 0oz run last night had the storm in the great lakes and the 12 z this afternoon it may disappear altogether..Lol…
Thanks Chris. Hopefully March will go out nice and quiet and peacefully dine it’s gonna come roaring in. Have s great Sunday all.
Up and down temp swings is a normal March. I think 70s in February have spoiled us. I will take average temps in March and be happy.
This will be the warmest February on record, and the third warmest winter month on record for Lexington. December of 1889 and December of 2015 were warmer as far as winter months go. This “warm” pattern has been persistent since the fall of 2015.
I think December 1889 was global warming.
February has been great, but wild! I recorded a temp of 81 on Friday, and a high of 44 on Saturday. I’m hoping we could see some decent severe weather, but this event coming up looks big.
Looks bad for Missouri and Arkansas.
SPC already has much of Kentucky in a 30% chance of severe weather in their 4-8 day outlook for Wednesday. They are saying a wide spread wind event for Ohio and Tennesse valleys. Could it be a Derecho?
