Good Friday evening everyone. The weekend is here and it’s starting off on a great note. That doesn’t hold up very long as rain increases tonight into Saturday and Super Bowl Sunday. It’s a cold rain that may even lead to a few snowflakes mixing in on Sunday,
The big weather news of the day comes from the European Model as it goes bonkers with the pattern for later next week and beyond. It basically says the indices I have been showing you over the past week have been sniffing something out.
The blocking across the northern latitudes goes wild and forces the polar vortex southward into the eastern half of the country. You can see this on the 500mb Height Anomaly average for days 6-10…
Now THAT is a classic look and could mean some wicked winter weather for the eastern US. Have you guys been keeping up with the what’s going on in Europe? If not… this model says you should. They went from mild to historic wild with a similar flip.

IF this model is correct… and it’s a big IF this winter… then it will lead to some extreme weather for a lot of people.

well just by whats going on in Europe sure is enough to at least raise the eyebrows!! thats for sure… I got a feeling all this spring like weather we’ve been having is about to come to a SCREECHING HAULT !!…I just hope there is some knee knockin snow to go along with it…
I am afraid everyone has give up at this point and has been lulled in to a false sense of security believing winter is over! A rude awakening may indeed finally be on the way!

I sure do hope that it is correct! But, I am not getting my hopes up just yet. Remember, the models showed that a change was supposed to happen this weekend. Last i checked, the only change I have seen is in the Denver area. My buddy’s father has 18 inches on the ground and it is still snowing! Would love to see a little of that here! I know that the flip in weather in Europe is a good sign, I just have to wonder though. I have been hearing about the change that is supposed to be 6-10 days away since November. I have seen the models too. I am just not to the point where I am going to believe them. Prove me wrong Ole Man Winter!
That would be Awsome, BUT, we’ve been teased by the models too many times this winter. I’m not getting my hopes up unless it is still showing up the middle of the week. I would still like a good snow before spring gets here.

1993 all over again, We will have 2or3 chances at a big snow in the next few weeks, If everything comes together like in 93, lookout?
Why even bother with models? they rarely get winter right. im sure if someone creates a model just for winter, they could CASH IN BIG!
Come on summer and 90’s. I am over this spring (winter). Ready for the pool. Will only nowcast and don’t beleive what any models is saying two weeks out. They are not working this winter, although the maps above are pretty dam impressive and Europe is getting hammered….HHHMMMM…..Could be something to watch…..

I gotta say…I’ve enjoyed the warmer temps. I really don’t want to have winter now 🙁 I have a serious case of spring fever. No worries of slick roads and school cancellations have been nice since I just started a new job. I ramble because I feel it may all come crashing down and winter may rear it’s ugly head, lol.
Newsflash another model is indicating the new ravish that is sweeping this blog the “Wait until next week theme”! It is kind of like Uofk football,”wait until next year”. But remember a clock is right twice a day. And by sure luck the models will have to be correct this time or some other time. I hope it is this time because this years chapter is about to run out out of pages.
I think you mean even a broken clock is right twice a day. Anyway, I hope we get at least a little winter in this month. Chris is awesome!

It’s not that I’ve given up, I want it to snow more than anybody, but after so many years of getting my hopes up and then getting kicked in the teeth, I’ve learned to temper my enthusiasm.
I being a true snowlover haven’t given up either. Just got some pictures emailed from Colorado and I wish it was us with all that snow.
HMMMMMMMMMM. I am going to Cincinnati tomorrow until Valentines Day. I am wondering if I might be cutting my trip short? I kinda hope I have to because I am WINTER STARVED!! Personally, I need cold, frigid conditions, snow, and blizzards to make me feel alive. All this beautiful warm spring like winter has drove me crazy. How can anyone be having SPRING FEVER? One can not have spring fever if we have not had winter. Everyone of us has had the joy of running around doing our daily chores with either a light jacket or no jacket at all. There is no SPRING FEVER OR CABIN FEVER to be had right now. There must be a winter of staying indoors and not being able to get out because of the cold and snow. We have had none to talk about. Now if the models are right, there may be some SPRING FEVER and CABIN FEVER taking place. But come on people, let’s have winter before crying about having SPRING FEVER!!!!!! !!!THINK SNOW— COLD— BLIZZARDS
Although I’ve enjoyed the spring like conditions in the back of my mind there’s a nagging voice saying its February for Pete’s sake….my birthday is at the last of January and as far back as I remember, we’ve seen the larger snows after that day so I’m thinking it could be a possibility and maybe a good one…..we’ve all been so discouraged this winter and morale is low but things may change no matter how the pattern has been. I’m still over winter and that takes alot of disappointment to get that reaction out of me but I’m trying to keep an open mind.
6 to 10 days…lol…The movie Groundhog Day keeps coming to mind…over and over and over. I hope this happens. Ready for some snow to fly.

Yep, although there was one time Charlie Brown finally made a kick, but it was not the football, it was Lucy’s hand! It was funny later seeing Lucy’s stern look, her hand in a cast 😀 . Sometimes luck finally goes your way, perhaps that’s what snow lovers may be getting soon, if for a while.
Forecasters middle names have been changed to “IF” by the winter of 2012….snow was forecast for this weekend last weekend….sure glad I’m not a weather person….I would starve to death “IF” I had to predict the weather. Faithfully waiting for that one big newsmaker.

it was really noticable here in corbin/Barbourville tonight as well. granny always said that was a sign of snow in the coming days…
My Easter flowers are already about 3in. out of the grown!! I’ve even noticed some of the tree’s have little blooms. They’ve been tricked into thinking its spring. But I have really enjoyed the temps but makes wonder what the summer will be like in the 100’s every day. Hope not..

Oh my heavens…this is the first year in who knows how long that we have NOT had a snow day to make up…so I have NO idea why some think they’ve been “kicked in the teeth” for all these years. Just go buy your snow toys at Target (they’re 50% off already) and get ready for next winter. That Mayan calendar thing pretty much guarantees an apocalyptic snow :).
All I could think after reading this was; If ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts… every day could be Christmas.
All winter it’s been “Just wait until next week.” And then next week arrives and we rather, rinse, repeat. I think this past week has officially welcomed spring fever for me. We got to take the kids outside to play almost every day on the playground and that’s something we didn’t do once between December – March last year. So yeah… I’m fine with an early spring, just not this constant “It’s gonna change in a second” stuff.
