Good Sunday, everybody. Today is an absolutely gorgeous weather day across the state with mild temps and sunny skies. The mild air is going to hang tough into the start of the new week as showers and thunderstorms join back in on the fun. I continue to see a very potent looking storm setup as we roll through March.
Today’s weather is all about a serious case of spring fever. Highs can hit 70 in the west with 60s elsewhere under a mostly sunny sky.
Temps on Monday will continue to be mild, but southwesterly winds bring an increase in moisture. This can lead to a scattered shower or thunderstorm, especially in the central and west.
That sets the stage for a strong cold front to sweep in here on Tuesday. This front will have a line of showers and thunderstorms ahead of it and some of the storms may be strong…
Seasonal temps come in behind that for a few days, but the numbers look to climb again by the end of the week. This should take us into another mild looking setup for the weekend with scattered showers and storms…
Another big storm system then moves our way with an increasing threat for heavy rain and some big boomers…
This is all part of a very active setup targeting our region. Look at the rainfall forecast for the next few weeks…
This is a VERY active setup and I don’t like what I’m seeing heading into the spring severe weather season.
Make it a great Saturday and take care.
Chris please tell me you are not seeing tornadoes
I agree! I have been fearing this!
After studying meteorology since the late 1960’s, I have never seen such a persistence in the jet stream pattern. The Arctic is completely cover in ice and snow with record cold temperatures. This spring looks to be thunderstorm active with very warm followed by very cool and maybe freezes late into spring. Tornadoes can occur any place at any time. This will go on till the earth balances its temperature. I hope this is natural, but looking at this pattern, I’am not sure. Have a great Sunday and hope for the best.
I heard there were ‘coatings’ of snow the other day. Of the various locations I follow throughout the state, Whitesburg came in with 0.5″ for a seasonal total of 8.0″, the leader, at least for the areas I follow.
That is easily more than the majority of the state. Many areas ended up with less than 1 inch. Didn’t even have the usual miss of a storm this past winter. Nothing even to watch for the most part.
I’m personally looking forward to daylight saving time next weekend. One of my favorite days of the year.
Yep, we have set the low snow bar this winter. Wild.
Just wait til next “winter”… As we know, these patterns usually last 2-3 years. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that next “winter” will feature equal or even warmer temps and less snow than this one.
I really don’t think that’s possible
Warmer temps, no. Not much snow- maybe.
Less than 0? (Well, less than 1/2 inch? I don’t want toe exaggerate!)
Heading into spring severe weather season?
Spring severe weather season appears to be upon us already.
This
Not this, not yet.
I’m excited to see some strong storms, but frequent severe weather isn’t a good thing. I’m pretty bummed about Winter. I got 1.6″, with around 0.5″ a few days ago. The European model is just playing with our feelings, I’m sure we won’t see any more snow.
On the 14 of March, there is a chance of one of though heavy wet snowstorms through central Kentucky. GSF is showing cold air aloft, at the same time gulf moisture is coming north. If, the two systems collide we will have a significant accumulation. If that happens, I’am going to make a snowman LOL. Have a great evening.
The models have shown this beyond a week all winter, but when they get a week in the fizzle. In past winters we got them showing even into the week and then would fizzles a few days out. Truly a year for the record books of Kentucky overall low snow years.
More salt than snow for accumulation is about as low as you can go.
This has been a horrible winter for snow. I live a few miles northeast of louisville in Southern indiana. I have received about 1/2 inch of snow all winter. If we have no snow in the next few weeks, I am ready for spring.
