Good Saturday, folks. Our clock spring forward this weekend, but our actual weather pattern is going in reverse. It’s a winter looking pattern taking up residence across the eastern half of the country over the next week or so. This is bringing absolutely frigid mid-March temps our way.
Our Saturday is dominated by a cold high to our north, crushing the snow moving into the Tennessee Valley. Some of this will graze western and southern parts of the state…
Sunday starts with another hard freeze and ends with highs in the 40s.
This will set us up for two systems hooking up into a monster storm along the east coast. As that low deepens, it should bring us some wraparound light snow and snow showers Monday night into Tuesday…
The air coming in behind that is pretty remarkable for this time of year with the numbers well below normal…
Lows by Wednesday morning may drop deep into the low and middle teens for parts of the state…
Make it a great Saturday and take care.
So much for the lower heating bills this next couple of weeks.
I’m lucky to be paying on a budget plan for gas. 🙂
Just an above-average hiccup as we head towards spring. I see this cold as a balancing act for temps as another poster previously stated.
Could mean less pent up energy, so less big storms in spring. No Threat Mode winter. A first for CB as a blogging weatherman.
Wrap around another word for dreaded backside flurries. Probably Old Man Winters last weak gasp. I hope it is anyway.
I was hoping for more than the dust from ‘wrap around’ snows. A winter with almost no flakes seems destined.
I will be indoors watching basketball this week.
If it’s going to be real cold this is the perfect week.
I agree. Just kind of wish it would of been last week instead. I usually enjoy spending the first day of DST outdoors. Not going to happen this year. Oh, well. Scattered cold days just comes with March weather.
Snow has been coming down at a good clip this morning in Nashville, perhaps an overachieving event this morning?! So far, mainly sticking to g*r*a*s*s, tops of cars. But temperatures should be above freezing this afternoon with rain, then more snow this evening.
NWS Nashville has a Winter Weather Advisory for this morning, then a second WWW for this evening. Best chances of measureable snow are on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee and especially on the higher elevations of the Tennessee/North Carolina border (Winter Storm Warning now up for western North Carolina).
Where did you go, Spring? :/
Just started here about 10 am
Started around 7am in Nashville, lasted a couple of hours. The dog sure loved it. Now the sun peaking through as expected, beginning to see the g-r-a-s-s again.
Round two of snow tonight, at least for some.
NWS Paducah conducted ground surveys yesterday around Fulton County KY, including near Hickman. These surveys revealed two tornadoes (an EF2 and an EF1); this ground evidence ties in with Doppler radar data not only showing rotation but also the radar’s dual-pol feature indicating a “debris ball” or tornadic debris signature (TDS).

Another area of Fulton County away from the tornadoes showed evidence of straight line winds that reached severe limits.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. More surveys today.
The EF2 tornado extended into Obion County, TN:

What happened to the other snow possibilities for later next week/weekend? Rodger in Dodger
Just like the rest of winter I guess. The difference in this winter and those in the past is that at least we have gotten a two or three day notice that it’s not going to happen. At least the models have thrown all hope away long before the storm this year.
Worst winter in a long time! Very warm and the few times it’s been cold enough for snow, the moisture gets pushed south because the cold is “too cold.” More teases today and early week and then let’s warm up and stay warm. Rodger’s sick of the disappointing winter and ready to move on! Rodger in Dodger
Snow just started at my house in East TN! Big fat fluffy flakes!
Glad youre getting some snow Tim. You guys rarely get snow the past 20 yrs. Prior to that East TN had 2-3 good sizable snows every year so you guys deserve it. Whats more, you don’t whine like babies, like we in KY do when you dont get every flake a model shows 7 days out. 🙂
I live in East TN, and we’ve had several very good winters lately. 2013-14 & 2014-15 had several bouts of cold and snow. I also had 5 inches of snow in the January cold snap of this year.
Looks like no one ended up with the 8-12″ snow around here. The New England area may get hit though.
Reports from NWS Memphis of about three inches snow in Paris TN this morning.
