Good Wednesday, everyone. We have another day of bitterly cold temperatures for the middle of March, but better days are on the way. Of course, when your thermometer hits rock bottom, the only way to go is up. 🙂 This doesn’t mean all is well in our weather world, but it’s a start.
Today will find temps in the teens with single digit wind chills to start the Ides Of March. Afternoon highs reach the upper 20s and low 30s for the central and east, with mid 30s in the west. There can still be some flurries or a snow shower on the move…
Lows by Thursday morning are deep into the teens once again before bouncing back in a much better way in the afternoon. Highs should reach the 40s for many.
Winds will really crank on Friday with temps hitting the 60s in the west and low and mid 50s elsewhere…
That surge of better air is ahead of a cold front, bringing gusty showers in here Friday afternoon and evening…
Chilly air moves in on Saturday with the possibility of a snowflake. That air won’t last long as we should surge back through the 50s on Sunday. Monday may see temps spike deep into the 60s with 70 possible in the west…
That mild up is also ahead of another cold front bringing showers and some thunderstorms back into town Monday night and Tuesday…
How much of a push of cold comes in behind that front? This will be something for us to track into next week. I go back and forth on how far south I think that front can get. It could put a battle zone of winter weather across the Ohio Valley.
It could also spin up a classic spring thunderstorm look…
We will see how this one plays out. I’m pretty sure you guys know which side of the weather fight I’m on. #springfever
I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
I will never be on the side of thunderstorms
Nearly 3 inches of snow here as of 7 am. Definitely a surprise when I woke up this morning.
Looking back on this winter it doesn’t seem to be that unusual after all. We have more snow droughts than snowy winters, which are very rare for the lower mid-west. I believe that we will probably go from winter to summer this year which again is not unusual. We will most likely have a thunderstorm that will cause some wind damage. This happens almost ever year. As we progress into summer we will become hot and dry which will continue well into fall.
Schroeder – I do not know how long you have lived here, but I have lived here since 96, and we have always had PLENTY of COLD, constant overcast and even the mildest of winters (which can’t even compare to this winter) we had “at least” multiple ankle biters. This is the least snowy “and” mildest winter I’ve ever seen here.
Bring on Spring!!
Thanks Chris. I am aright there with you. Ready for some warmer weather and sunshine! I see thing in my flower bed that need doing but its hard to get any gumption to do them at 20 degrees!
Ah well, hopefully we will get through this and have a nice normal spring, whatever that is….haven’t had one in so long its hard to remember! 😉 Have a great Hump Day everyone! Stay warm!
Black Mtn probably has like 10 inches of snow this morning. At least somewhere in the state got in on a winter storm..
Wow! Nothing in Richmond… a few flakes on the car that a stiff breath would clear off was all…
No snow in the near future, I am ready for spring.
It is cold outside.
I agree. #teamspring
I’d even take some serious thunderstorms. So long as the temps stay warm.
Update from my part of Richmond — Well, this last series of snow chances yielded 0 inches. Add that to the 1/2 inches we have had so far this winter and it likes we are up to 1/2 inches total.
Yep.
CB, have we ever got this little bit of accumulated snow for the area overall? I recall getting just single digits, but not virtually nothing like this winter.
As much as a spring season type of person I am, I do think we’ll see snow showers at times during the month of April. I’ve watched it snow many of times in mid April as a teenager. Very wild for that time of year
Never had any snow to shovel this winter–very surprising.
If this cold kills off some bugs, I’m good. 😉
