Good Friday, folks. We have made it to the final weekend of March. Did you hear that? The final weekend of March!! That’s hard for me to believe, but this is where we are. Speaking of where we are, warm weather is pushing in and bringing some thunderstorms with it.
Temps today will spike into the 70s for many areas. Some thermometers can get pretty darn warm with enough sunshine.
This warm air takes over and carries us through the middle of next week, at least. look at the next 5 days worth of temperature departures…
This way above normal air mass will then be associated by rounds of showers and thunderstorms. The first round arrives this weekend as low pressure works in. Storms hit the western part of the state early on in Saturday, then overspreads the region Saturday night and Sunday…
That action will move away later Sunday as the mild air rolls on. The flow will then throw another round of showers and storms our way later Monday into Tuesday…
Similar systems will then work our way over the next few weeks. This setup continues to feature stormier than normal weather with an increasing severe weather threat. The GFS Ensembles 2 week rainfall forecast shows a lot of action across the eastern part of the country…
Have a great Friday and take care.
Sounds good to me!
Gentleman, start you lawn mowers.
Good thing I have all the severe weather alerts!
Thanks, Chris! Looking forward to a nice, non-damaging thunderstorm.
I wonder – will these stormy periods be like Monday when a lot of people got next to no rain, while others get a lot? Or is it going to be widespread? I only ask because looking at the WPC’s QPF forecast for the next 7 days totaled, it only gives most of KY one inch of rain.
March is over??? Did I miss the back loaded winter haha. Yes!!!! bring on full blown spring.
The finish of the WVU – Gonzaga game reminded me of the continual attempts to push the “back-loaded winter” story that would never would stick.

If you’re going into Meck mode, at least be honest about it.
We still have a lot of cold arctic air in Canada and in Siberia. The jet over the Pacific remains strong, but is slowing down over the US. This is being tapped to give us enough cool air off the Pacific to slow down any development of organized strong storms. April and May could be mild with isolated showers. When we progress into June I expect the temperatures over the north will equalize and bring summer into our area. Whether it will be very warm or cooler remains to be seen. Have a great day.
You keep believing that, keep the faith! I’ll stick to reality.
If you don’t have an active jet through the area you are safe from destructive storms. Most of the jet energy is in the north central states. This weekend will be partly sunny and warm with small chances of rain showers, but not widespread. Enjoy your weekend.
