Good Sunday, folks. The weekend is wrapping up with scattered showers and storms rolling across the Commonwealth. This action will pull away late today, but another round of storms will rumble in here on Monday, bringing another threat for strong or severe storms.
Let’s start with today and roll forward. The storms will mainly impact central and eastern Kentucky with locally heavy rains and frequent lightning. Some of the storms may also contain small hail and high winds. I have you set to do some Sunday storm tracking…
Outside of the storms, a mix of sun and clouds will likely boost temps back into the 70-75 degree range. It may also feel a little humid out there.
Another system then moves in here later Monday with additional thunderstorms. Some strong to severe storms will be possible across the western half of Kentucky…
That threat may carry us into Tuesday with highs both days in the 70s.
A break in the action may come on Wednesday, but additional energy slowly ejecting out of the southwest means more showers and storms later in the week into next weekend…
That is one busy looking upper level setup!
On another interesting weather note, what the heck is this off the southeast coast?
Looks like a subtropical system to me. I wonder if we can get in named… in late March?
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Looks like a tropical depression. If it is, the weather we are having now will remain as is. It also could take energy from the storms entering our area. This is fine by me. The next area to watch is in Oklahoma, where there is a severe risk of large hail and possible large tornado’s. This system will move east- northeast and likely weaken over next few days. Next week looks to be mild, with a chance of a few showers and thunderstorms. have a great Sunday.
Your more annoying than seasonal allergies. PS severe thunderstorms are look likely tomorrow. Which is strange considering you specifically said for the past few days to few weeks that the threat of severe thunderstorms would stay way out to the west.
He looks at the SPC’s convective outlooks and repeats AFD’s on a regular basis. Thumbs up on seasonal allergies quip..
Prelude when Schroeder makes a mistake or anybody that goes against what you think. Your quick to point it out. If Chris Bailey makes a mistake in his forecast you defend him to no end. This is just a weather blog and everybody has a right to there opinion. Right or wrong don’t you think?
BH, your wrong Schroeder for the most part completely contradicts what CB puts in his posts almost religiously. It’s one thing to have a opinion but to blatantly contradict is a whole other thing. As far as me always agreeing with CB for the most part I do, but there are times I don’t. But know this I will not disrespect CB intentionally on his thoughts or comments as a few isolated bloggers do.
Prelude I think you right on some things. I think there are a few who try to be as smart as Chris on the blog. I’ve followed Chris since he was at WSAZ -TV and I always thought is does a great job at forecasting the weather and I have great respect for him. That’s why I followed him to Lexington on this blog. I just like to see everybody have fun on here and get along. I think you are a very smart person when it comes to the weather. And I like to reading all the comments. Sorry about the wildcats. Have a good evening.
B H, I get what your saying. Its all good my man.
Thanks Chris. Wow! With the strange weather we’ve seen again this winter, I would not be at all surprised to see a subtropical system get a name I n March. Here’s a suggestion…. AreyouKiddingMe. Ok too long, but makes sense. By the way, Jim said scattered this morning and we’ve had a monsoon for a big part of the day so far. Gonna have to get after him about his choice of wording. Have a great Sunday afternoon and evening all, and GO CATS!
How about a girl name for the storm, as you said, Aryakydinme?
….To even consider a tropical entity this early in the year is a testament to how warm the waters are in the Atlantic as the average minimum ocean temps are peaking Feb/Mar then will begin to warm up from here on out…impressive to say the least!
Crazy weather continues. The rainbow was very cool. The Cats loss was not. Tough, tough way to end but I’m so proud of our team. I’m just amazed when jerks on social media and sites like KSR call out players on what is supposed to be “their” team. Sad.
Go Reds!
All models are in agreement for a severe weather event in western Kentucky late this afternoon, if everything comes together. The energy is there, needs to be watched carefully. the storm should weaken as it moves east. After today, the action is forecast to shift to our south and eventually into the southeast. People in the western part of the state should really watch and listen to all weather reports for warnings, and have a safe place to go for shelter. Take all warnings seriously! Everyone try and have a safe day. I was wrong yesterday for predicting a quiet week. Weather, is ever changing and no one, no matter how much education he or she has, is not going to be correct all the time.
