Good Monday, everyone. It’s spring break week for many school systems across the state, so the kiddos are hoping for some good weather. Unfortunately, mother nature has different ideas. Rounds of thunderstorms and the potential for some snowflakes highlight the forecast this week.
Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Gusty showers and thunderstorms will rumble in from the southwest. Some of the storms may be strong or locally severe, especially across the south. I have your tracking tools…
That action moves away later Tuesday with warm southwesterly winds continuing. Those winds will REALLY crank on Wednesday as another potent storm moves into the Ohio Valley. As this storm wraps up, we will need to watch for strong and severe storms developing ahead of it…
That’s a lot of wind energy showing up with that low, so it wouldn’t take much for storms to bring that down to the surface.
MUCH colder air quickly wraps in behind this for Thursday and Friday. Wraparound rain and snow showers will be possible during this time…
Here’s where the GFS thinks will see some snow flying…
Outside of very warm weather around Christmas, there’s nothing worse than cold weather in the spring. U-G-L-Y.
The good news is, the cold is in and out in a few days. Temps by Sunday and Monday will shoot way up there and may flirt with 80…
One extreme to the other… That’s Kentucky Weather (and I’m not just talking about ne on twitter ;))
Make it a great Monday and take care.
Rain is about to enter my county. I don’t think that it will be and all day event. Most of the energy is to our south. The next storm is forecast to be here Thursday and looks like it has wind energy with it. The polar jet will then move south into our area with maybe snow showers ? Not that unusual for the mid west. Have a great Monday.
Thanks
Schroeder, the next storm system will be here on Wednesday with possible severe thunderstorms, your a day off. Smh
It doesn’t appear that we will have a hard freeze in KY this week but those darn temps are inching close to the freezing mark for Sat am in many areas…stinks but not out of the ordinary since the last freeze average date is between April 15 and 30th region wide for most! Generally, it has to get below 28 to get significant damage for trees/plants…we shall see:/
Thanks Chris. Redbuds are blooming and dogwoods are too. WE will have a prolonged cool spell, I am guessing right around Easter, as that is usually when it hits. Micah said this morning that the rain would not be an all day event, but it has been steady ever since it
started here earlier… oh well, no one can ever say weather in Kentucky is boring and predictable! Have a great Monday everyone/
The cool spells are normal and nothing to do with blooming plants.
Nobody said blooming plants cause it. Its the other way around the cool/cold air kill off the blooms of what has recently bloomed. Thats why its referred to as Dogwood winter Redbud winter and Blackberry winter just to name a few.
