Good Wednesday, everyone. A severe weather outbreak is likely to unfold across the region this afternoon and evening. This happens as a potent storm system takes aim at the region from southwest to northeast.

Here’s a breakdown of how the day may unfold:

  • Warm and windy weather will be noted today as temps make a run at 80 degrees across central and eastern Kentucky.
  • Thunderstorms will explode across western and central parts of the state during the late afternoon.
  • Damaging winds and very large hail will be possible with these storms.
  • There is enough shear showing up for these storms to produce a few tornadoes. The greatest tornado threat looks to be across the central part of the state.
  • If storms can get out on their own, a few strong tornadoes can’t be ruled out.
  • The prime time for severe weather is 2pm-6pm for areas around Interstate 65, then from 4pm-midnight for the rest of central and eastern Kentucky.
  • Much colder air filters in behind the storms with rain and snow showers for Thursday into early Friday. A grassy coating is even possible.

I will have the very latest on WKYT-TV and I will send out warnings and post my latest thoughts on twitter. Don’t forget to follow me: @kentuckyweather .
