Good Friday, everyone. We are rolling into Easter Weekend with a taste of early June temperatures across our part of the world. With this warm surge will come an increase in storm chances by late in he weekend. That will set the state for a much stormier week ahead.
Highs today hit the low 80s for many with a mix of sun and clouds.
Readings will be near 80 for Saturday with a few more clouds and isolated showers and storms going up. This action will really increase for Eastern Sunday…
That’s ahead of a cold front that drops in and slows down. This means rounds of showers and storms will work from west to east across our region for much of next week. Here’s the setup for late Monday and Tuesday…
With deep upper level systems rolling into the plains states, this should fire up the severe weather machine out there and into the Ohio Valley. The GFS Ensembles show quite a bit of rain for the plains and eastward over the next few weeks…
Have a fantastic Friday and take care.
It feels like June during the day and March/early April at night. What a crazy spread in temps thanks to the low humidity. It 43 here in Harlan with a near frost after hitting 82 yesterday and forecasted for 84 today!
Terry: What is your elevation there in Harlan ? Mine, is right at 1060 feet above sea level. When does the Mountain Laurel bloom in and around Harlan ? This is my favorite wild flowering shrub. Before, I retired I ran and operated a nursery and grew mountain laurel, azaleas, and rhododendrons and did very well for forty years. I attended Murray State University and earned my degree in agriculture in 1974. Have a great day and a wonderful Easter weekend.
I am in the valley with the elevation approximately 1,400 (give a little)feet above sea level. The mountain laurel usually blooms in the middle of May to about June 1st and is usually about the same for wild rhodendrun…about the latest for any blooming bush around and usually after the blackberries. Azeleas are in bloom right now. Have a blessed Easter weekend too.
Thanks Chris. Not liking the idea of a lot of stormy weather but I guess April showers bring May flowers. (I know, corny, but true.). However this Easter weekend looks great! Since it’s usually rainy or cold or both, I’ll take it! Happy Good Friday everyone! Have a great day!
And he’s back that lasted a whole 48 hours
Hey his post wasn’t bad today, I think we can forgive him
I will be ready again for some more storm chasing when it comes next week. I broadcast live on periscope and I tweet @KentuckyWeather #KYWX in it.
Do you chase in the hilly Central and Eastern part of the state or only out west where it is more flat?
I chase where I can get to storms.. I live in Richmond, so its where I can get to them from there.Typically Ill chase within a 75 mile radius
My Great Nephew wants to be a storm chaser, he is only six years old and talks about tornado’s when he’s visiting me. He really likes that movie ” Twister”.
