Good Friday to one and al. Our slow-moving storm system continues to throw some ugly weather our way today and into Derby Day. This is all part of a VERY nasty May pattern that continues to show little signs of change over the next few weeks. It’s a cool month taking shape.
Speaking of cool, we have that out there today with readings generally in the 50s, with pockets of upper 40s showing up. Gusty winds and rounds of showers will be noted. Take the rain gear to Churchill Downs for Oaks Day…

Scattered showers and gusty winds will continue into Derby Day, but some dry weather tries take over in Louisville before the Run For The Roses. There is enough cold air close to the surface for some small hail to develop. Some thunder is even possible.
This system finally moves away, leaving us with a frost threat for Sunday and Monday mornings. A few spots may hit 32 degrees or colder. Green thumbs are on high alert.
The pattern into early next week is better, but still cooler than normal. Another upper level system moves in for the second half of the week and may touch off some more rain…
This is just flat our ugly as we head into next weekend…
Temps are MUCH cooler than normal during this time…
Maybe another frost threat in the making?
As I’ve been saying, there is nothing pretty about this May pattern!
Enjoy your Oaks Day and take care.
Thanks Chris, your doing a great job. The latest frost that I experience was on June 19th,1992 when I was living in Indiana. That following summer had below normal temperatures. The meteorologist said that the eruption of a volcano somewhere, can’t recall where was the cause. Have a great day.
Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines methinks.
Actually, June 22 of that year had Indianapolis at 37 degrees…Terre Haute at 36…but June 19th could not have supported frost (too warm)
Of course it is going to be ugly next week/weekend. My daughter will be 5 on Thursday, and every year on her birthday and for her birthday party it is cool and rainy! Boo! Maybe it will change a bit and at least not be wet for her party. Thanks Chris!
