Good Saturday and Happy Kentucky Derby Day. We continue to see some nasty weather moving through the area today, with a frost threat following that up for the next few mornings. After that, there’s a lot of ugly showing up again late next week into next weekend.

A potent system dives in here from the northwest today, on a flow that looks like something from the winter months. This disturbance will touch off scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Watch for some small hail with this action. Winds will also be gusty as temps stay chilly.

I remain optimistic we can get some breaks before the run for the roses. Keep your fingers crossed on that one and follow it all…

Clouds clear out of here tonight with low and middle 30s delivering some patchy frost by Sunday morning. Highs on Sunday will be in the upper 50s to low 60s with mostly sunny skies. Monday morning is when some parts of central and eastern Kentucky can get in on a light freeze. A few spots may drop into the upper 20s…

That would certainly cause some issues for green thumbs.

Warmer air tries to fight in here by the middle of the week, but it gets cut off at the pass by another ugly setup. This fight leads to an extended period of wet weather. Watch this…

Where was that pattern this past winter? Ugh.

That same battle shows up on the temp maps, with the chill winning out…

That. Is. Nasty.

All of this is courtesy of this upper level setup…

I’ve said it for a week or two, and will keeps saying it… This is a very ugly month of May.

Have a great Derby Day and take care.
