Good Sunday, everyone. After a severe weather filled Saturday, additional rounds of strong to severe storms will target the region again today. This action is ahead of a cold front sweeping in here from the west.
The greatest threat for severe weather comes this afternoon and evening, and may be more linear than our Saturday storms. Damaging winds and hail continue to be the primary players. We will also have to watch for another round of flash flooding. Parts of the state picked up 5″ of rain on Saturday, so it won’t take much more to create more issues.
Some good news does show up for Memorial Day as our skies finally dry. Morning showers move away from the southeast, leaving partly sunny skies behind. Highs will generally run from 75-80 for many.
Temps for the week ahead look to average cooler than normal for the final days of May into early June. Scattered showers and thunderstorms return for the second half of the week.
In the short-term, it’s all about the severe weather potential, so lets do some tracking…
Make it a great day and take care.
The LexDome continues strong! Next to nothing in the rain gauge, no strong winds, very little thunder. With all that rain in TN this morning and cloud cover here, maybe we avoid severe weather again today.
If these had been winter forecasts with snow I would be very disappointed on missing out but not severe thunderstorms.
No such thing as a dome.
So far, all bark and no bite in the Richmond area. Will happily take that 🙂
Not entirely true.
Hope we get a little rain here in east jessamine today, didn’t get enough yesterday to register. Saw some rain go around us.
2.6 total from yesterday’s storms for my backyard
Thanks Chris, Looking at the current radar, all the rain and storms are moving southeast, and seem to be weakening. Late, yesterday we had a storm with heavy rain and a brief period of marble size hail, very little wind, a little thunder and lighting. This afternoon, when the cold front is forecast to move through will be interesting. Have a great Memorial day weekend and always remember our loved ones, and those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom.
It wasn’t the Lex Dome in northwest Lexington yesterday. We had 2 pretty good rains, some hail. Definitely not close to being a severe storm. I don’t have a rain gauge but I’m guessing we received maybe 1/2 inch total.
Barely rained enough to wet the sidewalk on the south side of Georgetown again. Thunder was in the area multiple times, but nothing happened. Head 10 miles north, and flash flood warnings were issued. Nothing new with the weather in KY.
What a beautiful day in Lexington. A few sprinkles here and there but not a whiff of storms. What happened? I really would like to know how the forecast can miss this much. Did the activity in TN this morning have something to do with it? The early cloud cover? If this had been a winter forecast people would be screaming bust.
