Good Friday to one and all. We’re rolling our way into the weekend and we have a surge of summer temps rolling into town. This big jump in temps will carry us into next week, but thunderstorms are going to cut into that in a hurry. As a matter of fact, this pattern is taking on another stormy look in the coming weeks.
Today will feature upper 70s to low 80s across the state with a mix of sun and clouds. I can’t rule out a storm in the far north at some point this evening, but most of the area looks good.
This weekend will find temps deep into the 80s with a 90 possible in the west by Sunday. The real heat with this setup is going to be well to our west and north. The illustration from the European shows how the REAL heat stays way from us in the coming days…
You can see how the cooler air starts to flex some more muscle later next week into the following weekend. That’s when a deep trough tries to dig back into the east, pushing the heat into the west…
Ahead of that trough, rounds of showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop early next week, and continue to increase through the week. Some heavy rainers are a good bet with that setup.
After that trough digs in, watch the Gulf for something trying to develop…
Again, this is a pattern that may end up causing us some issues going forward.

Where were you living when you saw the worst storm in your life? You didn’t say.
I grew up in western NC, very mountainous. Although we had bad storms growing up, mostly horrible lightning, but I don’t remember much hail or winds. It wasn’t until I moved here that I saw the worst storms ever in my life. May 2004 stands out, along with Sept 2006
April 3rd, 1974 was the worst storm of my life in Louisville.

Didn’t see the tornado but saw the cloud go over Iroquois Park. My family’s business in the Highlands was hit. When I looked outside there was an orange tint to everything. It was weird.
Seconded. I hope I never see anything that bad (or worse) again.

MarkLex: I was living Evansville, Indiana where I had my business. I retired and moved to the hills of Kentucky in 2008. That winter we had the worse ice storm I ever seen. Bad weather seems to find me LOL. Where you grew up is where I wish I’d retired, because of all the natural beauty and Rhododendrons grow wild in the mountains. Have a great day Mark.

I remember that weather event very well. April third 1974, in the late afternoon a tornado watch was issued by the national weather service for many counties in western Kentucky. I was finishing at Murray State University at the time. Murray, was spared the worse of the event, but the counties along the Ohio River were hit by numerous tornado’s. If I can recall, Brandenburg, Ky. was hit hard, by an EF 5 tornado and another town in Ohio, Xenia was completely destroyed. Correct me if I’am wrong.
