Good Tuesday to one and all. We continue to deal with a very tropical air mass across the bluegrass state. This air comes with an increase in showers and thunderstorms, leading to tropical downpours. These downpours can cause some local high water issues over the next week.
Today’s action will more widespread than what we had on Monday. Again, watch for the slow-movers than put down a lot of rain in a hurry…
As mentioned in earlier posts, it’s probably not going rain every day where you live. Still, rounds of storms will be noted with some days being more widespread than others. This pattern actually continues through this weekend into early next week. With this soupy setup, torrential rains are possible at times.
The models through early next week are spitting out some hefty totals. Here’s the GFS…
The Canadian…
The Canadian does so without help from any potential tropical development in the Gulf next week, but it still has something…
With deepening troughs digging into the country next week, temps will likely skew cooler than average for a lot of folks. The numbers from the GFS are much cooler than normal…
That may be just a bit too cool, but the average of the 21 member GFS Ensembles aren’t too far off…
Have a great day and take care.
Stay thirsty my friends.
Thanks Chris, Don’t really need the rain here in my area of Kentucky, but other folks, would appreciate a summer type shower for their lawns and gardens. The dew point here in my area in the hills has not been too high to create an uncomfortable feeling yet. What I read in your weather blog this morning that may change. I have a problem breathing when the dew point gets above 70 degrees, so I’am staying in till the temperatures cools next week. Have a great day everyone.
I become skeptic this time of year of any front making much headway in the Ohio Valley.
Definitely my least favorite weather pattern. Hot, sticky, with daily pop up storms. Makes it tough on those of us who work outside a lot, trying to get things done before the rain hits everyday.
Thanks Chris. Looks like this is going to be one of those seasons when you are not really sure if you can put away the long selves or not. Any day with rain and below normal temps can make it feel really fallish. (is that even a word?) I know a few folks who will not be happy because their swimming pools will be colder than normal. Use those black garbage bags on the kiddie pools to warm them up. It works! Oh well, if you have to be outside working, stay hydrated and take short breaks. Have a great Tuesday everyone.
Oh I think you can go right ahead and put the long sleeves away till October
On the Canadian model, it shows a developing tropical depression in the western Gulf of Mexico, and looks to be moving into southeast Texas. This storm may take some energy from our atmosphere and as a result could diminish shower development, causing more sun to warm are temperatures well into the 90’s. As, it moves east across the Gulf states, cooler, dryer air, ( lower dew points ) may, and I mean may enter our area of the Ohio valley. Sometimes, fronts will occlude, which means very little temperature change on either side of the front, but hopefully lower dew points. Have a great afternoon.
Louisville’s high temperature of 92 beat out areas near Death Valley CA (91) yesterday.
Hoping some of these showers strategically hit my part of the world. Folks mowing are doing nothing but stirring up dust.
And we got the much needed rain, it’s been awhile.
Gotta be kidding me…radar showed red right over my location earlier, and only a trace is all.
That’s Valley Station for ya
Some rotation in the storm rolling into Pulaski, but nothing too alarming
We had some rotation as well. It had a lot of wind, but not much rain…which we need!
