Good Sunday, folks. We are rolling into a much warmer week, but it’s one that will keep rounds of showers and storms rolling our way. This action will be coming from the northwestern sky and will likely increase the deeper we get into the week.
Let’s start with today and move forward. Highs will be in low 80s central and east with middle 80s in the west. There is just the slightest chance for a pop up shower or storm going up late in the day into the evening…
There will be a better chance for some storms rumbling in here on Monday as steamy air fights toward us from the west. A few of those storms can be strong, especially across the northern half of the region.
This kicks off a pattern featuring summer heat across the plains and Mississippi Valley, and cooler air in the Great Lakes and New England. This puts Kentucky in the battleground with storm clusters on top of us or very near us. That will vary from day to day, and you can see that well on the Canadian…
A couple of things about the week ahead:
- Any day that features more sun than storms can see temps make a run at 90. Tuesday and Wednesday appear to be the primary contenders.
- Storm clusters can be strong and put down very heavy rainfall when they do hit.
- The best chance for storms rolls in Thursday and Friday as a cold front drops in from the northwest…
The theme of the summer has been for the REAL summer heat to be across the western part of the country, with wet weather and normal to below normal temps in the east.
The long range European Model through the middle of August keeps that theme going.

I still think we can get some pretty steamy stretches of weather thrown in there, and one comes this week.
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
I wish all the summer time ( hybrid) Clippers in the forecast were coming down during the winter time.
I hope the train does not stop in December.
Id like to see 95 degrees at least this summer since 100 doesnt seem to be in the cards.
Thanks Chris, Great blog this morning. I like the way you explain in detail the upcoming weather for next coming days ahead. Not looking forward to the possibility of more rain and now heat added, but that’s usually our summer here in Kentucky. Have a great day everyone.
True on the real deal heat being out west. June temperatures were right around normal and through the 8th of July, Lexington is exactly “normal” for the month. I would be surprised if we get more than 15 90 degree days this summer in Lexington (average is about 20).
Well, this one example is the real heat. Since June 1, Needles CA has recorded 18 days when the average temperature (that is the high temperature added to the low temperature then divide by 2) has been at least 100 degrees. On the 7th of July, high temperature was 122 and the low was 94 for an average temperature of 108 for the day.
Thanks Chris. Just want to be able to wear comfortable shoes to work.
Having issues with ones feet and working a job where you are outside and inside is hard to do sometimes. (Don’t like wet, squishy feet either!) :(. Guess we will have to wait and see what the week brings. Hopefully a 90 degree day or two (to heat up those pools) would be ok too. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
cant wait to start talking about the fall & winter outlook. im so ready for it 🙂
Bowling Green is off to a very wet start to the summer so far. Nearly 11″ since June 1 is well ahead of last year’s 7.91″ about this same time. 2016’s finish was a top ten contender at 18.75″.
