Good Monday, everyone. We have a full blown heat wave on the way for the second half of the week into the upcoming weekend. With the soggy ground finally drying out some, temps later this week may be the hottest we’ve had since the summer of 2012.
Before we get there, we do have a cold front on top of the region today. This front will give us the chance for scattered showers and storms…
Temps today will be in the low and middle 80s for many, with some upper 80s west and far south.
Temps on Tuesday start to take off. Highs will be near 90 west with mid and upper 80s across the central and east. There is still a small chance for a storm or two.
The setup from Wednesday into the weekend is a hot one…
A massive heat wave will build eastward into the Ohio Valley. Highs will likely jump deep into the 90s with a shot at 100 in the west. The heat index numbers may hit advisory criteria across the entire region.
This setup is a far cry from the setup we’ve had for the first half of summer. June was a cooler than normal month around here, and the first half of July featured cooler than normal highs and warmer than normal lows…
Obviously, that’s going to change in a hurry with the temps coming this week.
How long will the heat wave last? The models suggest, not very. That northwesterly flow of thunderstorms is delayed from my earlier thinking, but it’s not denied. The models show it coming back late this weekend into next week, with a nice push of cool to boot…
Here’s the GFS expanded through the start of August…
Have a great Monday and take care.
Can’t wait to see what Schroeder babbles about on this one!
Shut up and leave him alone.
SMH.
Thanks Chris, This heat wave is the result of the two high pressures, one currently to our west, and one to our east, locking together and producing one large dome of hot air over the area that Chris indicated in his weather blog this morning. I don’t think that this is that unusual for July. I remember several hot summers. The worse one was in 1988. I hope the models are correct, that this heat wave doesn’t last. But, I have seen heat waves last well into Autumn. Have a great day everyone.
It is going to be a long hot frustrated week.
Pack a lot of water for yourself and your lawn.
I hope the heat doesn’t last long. Not fond of 90’s and above. That’s why I left FL.
Ralph, What is it about my comments that makes you so negative towards me ? I would really like to know if there can be something I can post that would be satisfactory for everyone ? If you don’t reply I will take that as a no. I blame myself for disrupting Chris’s wonderful blog which I enjoy very much. I will quit posting if that will solve this bullying problem, because I want peace and friendship. Have a great afternoon.
Schroeder, Generally speaking, there are several reasons a person bullies another, but the two most common reasons are extreme insecurity and/or not enough attention was paid to the person either as a child growing up or currently at home.
Me personally — keep posting! I enjoy your input.
Schroeder,
You are just fine man. I do not read this blog as much as I use to but it is good to see your input. Please keep posting. =)
Me too Mark!
Keep posting Schroeder, and look over insecure people like the one that is always making rude remark about your post. It just shows his ignorance. A lot of people on here likes your post that you put on this blog.
Thanks Everyone, I will keep posting. I have a lot of meteorological information I would like to share. I have been studying since 1958. Now that we have the internet, a person can really get into the subject. Have a great evening.
Interesting way of looking at the average high temperature departure and average low temperature departure. But, the bottom line is when you combine the two, the majority of the state’s average temperature is above normal so far, roughly 70 percent, and that percentage will quite likely go up this week.
Excessive heat watches going up for western part of Kentucky.
Finally getting some decent weather around these parts for a change. 😉
