Good Thursday, everyone. We have showers and storms on the increase out there today. This action is ahead of a very strong cold front ready to plow across the bluegrass state on Friday. This will bring another big blast of fall temps our way, and this one is likely to hang around for a while.
Unfortunately, there’s a price to be paid as we are going into a pretty wet setup through the first half of August.
Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Showers and storms go up in clusters, with the best chance for strong storms in the north. Any boomer that’s out there can produce torrential rains, leading to some local high water issues. Track away…
The fall cold front arrives Friday with gusty winds and a line of showers and storms. If we can get some sunshine ahead of this line, the local severe weather threat will increase. Damaging winds would be the main player. Here’s the Friday severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
The showers and storms will push out of the region this evening as VERY cool air surges in from the northwest. Check out the temperature anomalies from the NAM…
A mix of sun and clouds will be noted on Saturday and the NAM is about as cool as you will ever find on an August day with sun. Check out the highs it has for Saturday…
That is likely too cool, but temps stay in the 70s for highs across our region.
Clouds will quickly increase on Sunday as another rain maker rolls our way from the west. This will take us into early next week…
Temps will be held way, way down once again.
With a hyper-active pattern, get ready for another big rain event later next week…
The European Model is spitting out some big time rain totals through next week…
Temps remain below normal right on through the middle of August. Time to stick in fork in what was already a wimpy summer? Hmmm
Have a great day and take care.
Keep talking all the rain but here in Breckinridge co it’s getting very dry we need rain have had 1.1 inches in last 2.5 weeks seems like the ones that get rain keep getting the rain I’m a farmer and there’s nothing worse than waiting on rain when You need it and watching others who don’t need it get it
Know what you mean. We’ve had storms and rain surrounding us, but we are in a doughnut hole of nothing. Saw a Facebook post from yesterday-stayed inside as it thundered over 2 hours, but never rained a drop. Looks like today will be scattered, then the line of storms will form SE of here tomorrow, leaving my neck of the woods dry again.
Love those fall temps.
Thanks Chris, What amazes me is how quickly this pattern is changing. I would give it a 95% chance of an early Autumn which will lead us into what I feel will be a very cold winter, which will last past mid- April. I just gave my Autumn and Winter forecast oops, cat’s out of the bag. Have a great day everyone.
Thanks!
I know guys, I was in the nursery crop business for 35 years. In those years, it would rain all around our farm. To save my crops I had to install an irrigation system. The late 1980’s was the worse drought in my history of growing. Hope, it rains on your crops real soon!
Very interesting…
Wimpy Winter, Wimpy Summer. Lets hope this pattern of extremes changes this fall. Would like to see a return to pre-2012 normalcy around here.
