Good Thursday, folks. We continue to run in full blown fall mode across the bluegrass state, but all eyes are on Powerhouse Hurricane Irma churning toward Florida. The track on this is back to where we were focusing on a few days ago, the east coast of Florida to the Carolinas.
Before we get to Irma, let’s talk about the weather here in the bluegrass state.
Today may start with a few record lows, especially if skies are clear. Highs are in the mid and upper 60s central and east, with low 70s west. There is just a small chance for a shower to go up this afternoon…
Friday sees temps in the 70s across the board, with a mix of sun and clouds. A weak front drops in Friday night and early Saturday and knocks a few degrees off the thermometer readings for Saturday.
The weekend looks absolutely awesome!!
Hurricane Irma continues an amazing run as a Category 5 Hurricane as it plows into the Bahamas…
The forecast track from the National Hurricane Center…
The latest model trend is for this to stay just off the east coast of Florida as it heads north toward South Carolina. Still, this is just the current trend and bouncing back and forth can be expected in the models in the coming days. Here’s the current GFS…
You can see how what’s left of Irma throws rain and some wind back into the bluegrass state by Tuesday and Wednesday. The Canadian Model is very similar…
It’s also pretty incredible to watch Hurricane Jose coming up right behind Irma and doing a loop in the Atlantic.
Obviously, the exact track of Irma remains to be seen, but it can be a catastrophic hit from Florida to the Carolinas. That exact track will also influence our weather, with the potential for wind and rain, especially in the east.
I will have another update later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Hey Chris, I live in KY during the summer and FL from August to May. Thank you for your reporting on Irma this week. I have been turning on NHC, weather.com, and KY Weather Center first thing every morning. Your forecasts have added clarity I appreciate.
Looks like we would get less Irma action with current trend. Win!
Not sure what your looking at but trends would have Irma affecting Kentucky with gusty winds and rains. Not as much rain as some saw with Harvey but winds will be stronger.
Pull over weather! Love it!
It looks like Jose is starting to develop an eye.

Hopefully, this page loads. It shows what our current satellite looks like today versus what this same region looked like September 16, 2010.
Did anyone see the video from barbadus? So devastating
Yea, about 90 percent of the buildings either destroyed or badly damaged. It was the island of Barbuda. I had vaguely heard of Barbuda on tv before (perhaps wondering at first if the commentator meant Bermuda or Barbados) but had no idea where in the Caribbean it was until now. Barbuda only has about 1800 residents; the airport’s runway is very short thus only allowing small propeller plane air carriers flights to nearby islands such as St Martin.
St Martin was also devastated.
If the storm tracks up here to Kentucky, what exactly can we expect? High winds? Heavy Rain and if so how much? I know no one knows as of yet, but would like an idea on what we can expect. Thanks!
