Good evening, gang. I wanted to drop by for a very quick update on the bitterly cold temperatures that will just keep coming at us over the next few weeks.
I’m not going to go on another full blown rant about the Wind Chilly Advisory, or lack thereof, across northern Kentucky…
As of this writing the Wind Chill in Covington is already down to -11. The National Weather Service forecast for Wind Chills is into their criteria level…
Current winds are gusting at 10mph, which is also above their criteria. Moral of the story… there is ZERO reason for northern Kentucky and the Cincy metro not to be under a Wind Chill Advisory right now.
I digress.
I’ve been talking about the east coast storm and the snow showers andĀ bitter cold coming in behind it, but just how cold can this get around here. The European Model has similar lows to tonight, showing up by Friday and Saturday…
Once again, we find brutal wind chills showing up…
A sloppy system shows up late Sunday into Monday and will likely keep getting colder on the models. Whatever it is will then unleash another round of bitter cold temps. Look at the lows on the European Model for the middle of next week…
Wind chills at the same time…
This is one of the all-time great cold weather patterns you will ever see around this part of the world.
I will hook you up with another update later tonight. Enjoy the evening and take care.
This is ridiculously cold Chris. When we get back to average?
Thanks for your diligence, Mr Bailey. Rodger would trade this pattern for an all-time great snowy pattern in a heartbeat! Rodger in Dodger
Thumbs up……a thousand times over!!!
Yes..if only we could get a good snowstorm on this frozen ground..it would stick around for a while…I got family in VA beach VA. Getting ready for a big snowstorm!..
Southern Alabama got five inches in early December!! Everywhere except here š Rodger in Dodger
I’m glad we have a shed full of split wood for the stove!
Thanks Chris, it is frigid out here. Drove to Nashville from Knoxville, was a real ‘flizzard’ on the plateau with 12F at midday. Thankfully cleared up once we got to Cookeville.
Really hoping for warmth to come soon, cold and dry is so depressing…
I agree with Rodger west Kentucky has been hosed this winter and last as well I’m ready for some serious snow curious why in this pattern can’t even get a clipper lived here all my life remember lots of winters with at least off and on snow showers come on snow train
Yep, back in the day it seemed like we could count on a clipper or two to drop an inch or two and take a little sting out of the southern storms that would bring disappointing cold rain. But Rodger can’t remember the last time a clipper brought more than a minor dusting to western Kentucky/far southwestern Indiana. Rodger in Dodger
All this cold and the first system showing up will be rain. Go figure.
Not if it’s trending colder with each run. Another weird thing, I always heard of the great winters of 76/77 and 77/78. On the NWS’s list of consecutive days at or below 32 F, 76/77 isn’t even on that list for Lou or Lex. 77/78 is though. I thought 76/77 was the worst of the two.
The Winter of 78 had more snow but 77 was colder, In my part of WV. I think the NWS and local TV stations base all their forecasts on the GFS. Their forecasts always seem to mirror it.
I don’t know what’s worse……….dealing with little to no snow, or having to pay a supremely high price for an electric bill due to all this cold that nobody wants.
Can we at least get back into the 30s? Ugh.
Agree AC. it is -1 in Frankfort. just think what a few inches of snow would do????
