Good afternoon, everyone. A very active winter weather pattern continues to take shape across the country, and it will likely impact our weather on multiple occasions.
The first system zips in and out of town very quickly Thursday into Thursday night. Rain develops early Thursday, with a switch to wet snow from northwest to southeast as the precipitation starts to end. The best chance to put some light snow on the ground is across the southeast…
Could we get an inch or two in some spots? Sure, but it depends on just how quickly that transition from rain to snow takes place.
Frigid temps move in for Friday with teens to start and upper 20s to end.
The Super Bowl Weekend system continues to look more impressive as it arrives late Saturday. Watch how the low looks stronger as it rolls up east of the Appalachian mountains on the GFS…
That particular track would bring a swath of snow across Kentucky…
Compared to earlier runs, the Canadian Model is also coming back west and stronger with the system…
Don’t focus on the specifics showing on the models, instead, focus on the trend of a stronger system with more moisture. How that plays out exactly remains to be seen, but this weekend can easily be upgraded to a Threat later today or tonight.
Snow chances don’t end there, watch the systems coming behind this…
I will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm, and will throw you another update this evening.
Make it a great afternoon and take care.
Could be a great ten-day window for snow fans. Could be a big disappointment. Rodger’s hoping for the snow! Another 4+” and this will go down as a pretty good winter in his backyard. Rodger in Dodger
Great blog…much appreciated for showing the two week systems. Plenty of snow chances.
Thanks Chris. Here’s hoping for a good one before we Get too far into February. One really good one and then I’m ready for spring. Have a good afternoon all.
Thanks Chris, Models are inconsistent, but all are showing more Gulf moisture. Something we haven’t seen for a while. Will it be snow depends on the upper levels.
Thanks for all you do Chris!
Some are still saying a few inches of snow Thursday into Friday for eastern KY and western WV. It will definitely be interesting to watch.
Well with all this wet weather it should be great season for the first cut of hay again this year. Always like to see the green fields. Just have to wait a bit longer for it to come. Have to deal with the rest of winter first.
Farmers ROCK! 🙂

Hahaha
Thank you so much Chris.
Quite honestly, I am not getting my hopes up for anything over the next couple of weeks.
If the snow is there when I get up, then I will be a happy camper, if not, then another rainy or cold day.
Nothing against you Chris, you ARE Da MAN. I check your blog at least twice a day, everyday, not just during the winter months.
I
m about to give up on watching the models, this far out. I’ll wait until the day before an “event”
Here in Northern Louisville (right along the river) the vast majority of the flakes I’ve had so far were nothing more than the size of grains of salt.
I’d love to get 1 good thumping before it gets too warm.
Threat mode for flash flood on Sunday…….not snow.
Nuh uh.
Chris thank you for your hard work. I also check your blog several times everyday. You are the best!! I want to see a big snow of at least 6 inches. BOTS!!!
Thanks for all your hard work Chris. I love your blog! I’m a school teacher so I’m always wanting the snow!!! BOTS!!!!!
Ok local Mets here saying good chance we get all rain and flooding this weekend and next week
I for one, have zero hope of getting a big snow. Barely 1″ for the season so far (and only a trace last winter)…the least in all of KY. At least last winter was mild and enjoyable to be outside temperature wise and that was great. For me, this winter will live in my memory as one of the top 5 most miserable…cold, windy and nothing to show for it. So ready for Spring.
Too dang warm for southern KY this weekend! Boo, hiss, boo! Probably be another most of the state hit and mostly rain for SE KY
That’s almost a guarantee. Iif there is snow, it will fall on the usual suspects…wont be here. lol
Accuweather saying 1-2 inches for Ashland tomorrow. Wsaz and weather channel saying flurries. CB says we have a chance. Who is right?
I wouldn’t count on ACCUWEATHER or The Weather Channel Apps being right all the time. They are garbage sometimes and off.
Ha..Low went from Alabama to Louisville on the super bowl system..Was hoping for it to amplify but really..lol

Don’t believe it though..May be right but highly unlikely..
Thanks Chris for showing all the models and possibilities. February is usually the month for better snow chances, so it be interesting how everything pans out.
