Happy Thursday, folks. February is off and running with a cold front working across the state. Rain develops along the front, then quickly changes to wet snow from northwest to southeast this afternoon and evening.
With a quicker changeover and a slightly slower moving system, I’ve made some adjustments to the snow potential…
The exact timing of the switch in any one location will play a huge roll in how much falls, and that’s why I’ve put the coating as the baseline. Still, it may snow hard enough to overcome the wet ground, leading to a slushy snowfall for many.
The models continue to show higher totals than my forecast…

The weekend system looks a little more organized on the morning runs, leading to a better snow chance late Saturday into Sunday.
I leave you with your tracking tools for the day……

I will have the very latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm and will have another update this evening. Make it a good one and take care.
Looks like the NWS has higher totals than even Chris:
“Rain and snow showers before 1am, then a chance of snow showers between 1am and 4am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 18. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.”
His forecast matches what NWS has for me.
I’ve had similar experience too, does NOT inspire confidence LOL!
I remember experiencing a Tornado warning in central Kentucky in the late 1990s while the Weather Channel reported that it was partly sunny outside. Never been with the Weather Channel ever since. They get it wrong every time.
I’ve had a similar experience too, does not inspire confidence! LOL (meant that as a reply to Admiral Ackbar, sorry Andy Rose)
wymt is saying less than what you are calling for chris so im sorry buddy but im staying with wymt man.no offence.
WYMT is giving less than a coating?
I haven’t watched WYMT since Jim Caldwell left for WKYT. Watch WBIR Knoxville for weather now (we are outside WKYT market so don’t get the channel here anyway).
Eastern Kentucky has superior weather technology than the national and international radars that Chris uses to make his forecast. “Coming to you live in the coal mines out in the holler, it’s a snowin’!”
LOL That’s fantastic!!!
You’re only doing that because they are telling you what you want to hear.
Chris is more accurate most of the time!
Thanks Chris. I’m glad you always say what you THINK will happen instead of just saying this is it. You’ve been right a LOT more times than you’ve been wrong. Do, we’ll see what happens. Have a Good Friday Eve everyone.
There is no responsibility when you say what you THINK might happen. I love Chris, but saying that you are glad when people take less responsibility for predictions is concerning when it comes to trying to guess what the weather will do…as a weather-man or a weather-man woman.
That’s true.
No
Come on, Hammy! Cut some slack 🙂
I weather tell people what I think what”s mother nature going to do than trying guess what going to happen. No such thing of being perfect Admiral.
It’s a trap!!!
Mr Bailey is in spring mode now. Rodger in Dodger
I’m pleased to see the weather cams from Eastern Ky. I was surprised when I was scrolling down and saw one from Jenkins and Pine Mountain. Nice!
Thank you Chris for your time and information it’s much appreciated!
36 in hopkinsville and light rain with a mix here and there.
It’s 38° in my area Louisville right now with rain and snow starting to Mix in.
Snowing in Floyd County, IN.
35 and transitioning to snow in Fern Creek.
Make that 34. Just dropped a degree.
Radar shows rain, but it is all snow herenin Floyd County.
Started snowing between 4 and 4:15 in mid-Scott County. I am not sure I have ever seen such large flakes. Some look like they are almost two inches.
34 and snowing pretty good in Clark Co near Fayette Co line
Radar is still showing rain here, but it snowing heavy. Its also now taking flakes about 30 seconds to melt on the concrete. Sticking on the deck.
Snow coming down at a good clip in very south Fayette Co. But it looks like on the radar it is moving at a pretty good clip. Is it going to fill in tonight and keep snowing? or is the back edge west of Lville and it will push through and be done.
Wild how a few miles makes. I just came from south Lexington and the rate of snow is half that in north Richmond. No real sticking yet, so no harm no foul.
And for as many years as I have been aware of the crazy cut off at the river, it always amazes me! Ice storm in 2003, I think that was the year, my house had very little ice. A mile south had even less but a mile north was double what we had.
What gfs runs tend to be hunk runs in your guys opion?
I do not understand what you are writing.
The GFS 12z run is a rain event for Ky.
The nam has some snow for Ky.
I am sorry the 12z run.
18z my cell phone is playing tricks on my keyboard lock.
1.5 inches in Rodger’s backyard near Henderson! The NAM nailed that today. Hoping for another four inches in the next ten days and Rodger will be happy! Rodger in Dodger
Why do you always refer to yourself in third person? Is that some kind of gimmick or some kind of character trait? I mean, it reads like people that need to wear a funny hat or someone who must wear Hawaiian shirts every day. It just seems like you are trying to seek attention. You always end with “Rodger in Dodger” like you are in Smokey and the Bandit. I just do not get your gimmick.
Maybe he’s a wrestler cutting a promo like Stone Cold or The Rock. Joe is pretty sure that’s the only profession where you can get away with referring to yourself in the third person. But Joe has been known to be wrong before, once, in the Spring of 93. So Joe thinks Rodger is a wrestler. Joe in Snow
