Good Wednesday, everyone. Our winter storm continues to push across Kentucky, bringing everything from a flood threat to the possibility of ice and snow. I have you all set to do some tracking.
Here’s a quick recap of how things may play out:
- The best chance for significant amounts of freezing rain continues to show up from western Kentucky into northern parts of the state.
- Some freezing rain amounts may reach .25″ to .50″ in the north.
- The Lexington metro looks like the dividing line between ice and just plain rain.
- Snow shows up across the north, with the Covington area having the best shot at a few inches or more.
- The flood threat continues across the rest of central and eastern Kentucky. Some amounts of 2″+ may show up.
- This system winds down quickly from west to east this afternoon, with some light snow at the end.
- Watch for a few snow showers to develop tonight across the east.
- Your friendly weatherdude continues to be #teamspring. 🙂
My next update will focus on where we go after today’s system. Speaking of today’s action, let’s track it…

As far as I can see winter is over in KY and WV lowlands. Chris, please tell me I am wrong. This winter will be remembered for early cold and dry, and late warm and wet. Early February cold runs away at any sight of significant moisture and then magicall reappears just as the moisture is leaving. I guess it’s the infamous southeast ridge.
50 in Frankfort with pooring rain, this is a bust for all mets in this part of the world, what a joke???
I’m happy to hear that. My son lives in Frankfort and as a worried mother didn’t want him to have to get out this morning in a ice storm.
Models have been overplaying any type of frozen precipitation all winter. For this system that was a good thing. Also, remember how the models were showing significant cold for the first half of February. That didn’t turn out to be right either. Even the close range models have missed any type of frozen precipitation in now casting range. This is one winter where opening the curtains and seeing what it was doing outside would be the only accurate solution. Would hate to be a meteorologist this winter. Good thing only about three weeks of meteorological winter left.
Looks like people in Ky have more ice in there freezer than what they got last night.
Meanwhile, Scott County EMA is telling folks to stay home and off the roads, specifically the northern part of the county.
Very good bust. Seems a joke calling it a joke 😉 Who wants bad ice? Best bust evah’ 🙂
Yep! While Nashville was expected to stay above freezing this time, many in Bowling Green, Nashville, Memphis, etc, still have bitter memories of the devastating 1994 ice storm. That anniversary is just days away (Feb 11).
BTW, a few renegade snowflakes reported near Clarksville TN and D-i-c-k-s-o-n TN this morning. But the change was from rain to a few flakes, not freezing rain!
Go find something else to complain about, Todd.
50 at Frankfort? was also a joke
Looking at everything I’m seeing looks like Spring might arrive early this year. 2nd half of winter looks to be a lot warmer than the first half of winter. Looks like The groundhog got it wrong again.
my thoughts also!
I came to a conclusion that Admiral Ackbar and Schroeder are the same person after reading all the post last night. Looks like Schroeder hates to be wrong and being called on it. No heavy snow for you Schroeder.
It’s a trap!
Well my observational forecast for heavy snow for all of Kentucky didn’t pan out. I have however, in the past have forecast heavy snow and it came, while meteorologist forecast the opposite. I don’t care whether I am right or wrong, I just like talking about the weather with all of you. Those of you who are never wrong with a weather forecast cast the first stone.
Right now we have a temperature of thirty three degrees and light rain, a great day to stay in.
I believed someone called you out yesterday for your rhetoric and once again, you were wrong.
Schroeder humor me and others and tell us (especially me) why the commonwealth didn’t get your much predicted 100% guaranteed statewide snow? I couldn’t ask you yesterday since for some strange reason you were MIA.
He was out cruising around in his snow cone truck…
Okay, all of you are better than me. I’am nothing, and nothing I say is creditable. Remember last Palm Sunday when Chris Bailey called my post nothing, well he was right and I’am always wrong. In other words a loser.
Most accurate thing you’ve ever said!
Chris Bailey can trace the posts and determine whether or not they came from the same source – when he can take a break from his job or being with family that is.
I think I recall he has caught posters doing multiple sock puppets before.
Ever heard of a VPN or IP spoofing?
I noticed the same thing. 90% probability same person. Schroedy stops and then Ad Ak starts up. Same type of wording and replies placement.
I’M NOT I REPEAT NOT ACKBAR !!!!!!!!!
Easy, Ackbar! You’re going to explode!
Pouring the rain on the Northeast side of Pikeville in the Belfry area. The rivers in this area, The Big Sandy River and The Tug River were already a little high yesterday and with 2+ more inches of rain could cause some flooding problems.
If only we could have gotten this precipitation to hook up with the cold weather from January, what a snow we could have had! Oh well, there is nothing any of us can do about the weather. It is still fun to follow along and keep up with all the changes. Thanks to Chris for all the hard work he puts into this blog!
Still holding out hope for a backloaded winter. Heavy snow threats for second part of Feb into March. Blocking will be setting up again next week. Hope the Southern jet stays active. Thanks for all you do CB.
Keep the faith
With that set-up, so does more ice chances. I prefer us to just accept the results and move one. Kind of once again like our Cats. Great kids though 🙂
Im with Chris!!! #TeamSpring all the way!!
CB is the only person calling for snow showers in the east tonight. Weather channel, weather nation, and local stations…..nothing…. interesting to say the least.
I must say, I have heard two different meteorologists say a chance of snow showers tonight for SE Ky. Sorry Chris! One was on the radio!!
Woo! Sure glad that didn’t play out like it was supposed to.
So with all the winter possibilities and potential we have had one dusting in the last three weeks in my part of Richmond. Four dustings for the season and one fall of four inches… Disappointed but, hey, that’s better than last year.
Incorrect
So I’m not disappointed or it is not better than last year?
He doesn’t really know. Resident troll.
You are a liar.
That seems a bit harsh. What do I not know? How am I “trolling”?
Where do you live in Richmond? Exit 95 area on north has about 6.5″ whole inches this winter, which is about six times more than last winter 😉 The main snow was a few weeks ago of about 4.5″ inches-ish.
In town, near Lake Reba. We have only one snowfall that was more than 1/2 inch in my area.
I’m guessing none of the previous commenters are in Scott County, we have plenty of ice. Everything is coated. It is beautiful but I certainly don’t want any additional accumulation.
well, winter is on the way in the next few weeks since the models are showing it getting warmer. lol… na, hope the blind hogs are finding acorns this time. I want some spring!!!!!!
Winters last hoorah…hopefully. Unless the artic trough that was talked about a couple of weeks ago materializes.
Lots of cyber bullying on the blog today..Sad little people..Attack with a rubber sword..lol
Those can hurt too! Ouch!
And then comments deleted, even funnier LOL. Can’t we all get along. Haha. Life is too short to be this serious.
Your definition of cyber bullying and mine are two different things. I’m the first to admit I call Schroeder out, he blatantly more times than not will say things that are just not remotely true. Schroeder loves to contradict. Then you have some bloggers on here that will rush to his side and whine and say “Quit picking on Schroeder” are you kidding me!?! I truly believe that Schroeder doesn’t believe what Schroeder says. Then Schroeder will spin things to his favor and have the gullible bloggers feeling sorry for him. Schroeder will play his I’m the victim card, “all I want to do is talk about the weather can’t we all just get along?”In reality nobody is bullying him. Schroeder brings his own misery on himself with his complete BS he says and then rely’s on the some that stick up for him, so he can feel better about his blatant contradiction and lies.
I can’t believe people are taking this that serious to even comment, and then reply to the comment LOL
Your darn Skippy!! Believe it.
LOL..Prelude you taking the weather to seriously..So what if Schroeder said the whole state will get snow..Did that wreck havoc on your life..He’s just a 60 some yr man that like’s to yap about weather..Hope you don’t work in a nursing home..Bad image comes to mind..
I have DEPRESSION ! I’ve had it all my life. I thought that if I could talk about weather on this blog it would help, and it did for a while, but now it is making it worse. The end, I’am off the comment line for today.
Hang in there Schroeder..I’m sure no one has any ill feelings toward you..
“You know you really need some help. A regular psychiatrist couldn’t even help you. You need to go to like Vienna or something. You know what I mean? You need to get involved at the University level. Like where Freud studied and have all those people looking at you and checking up on you. That’s the kind of help you need. Not the once a week for eighty bucks. No. You need a team. A team of psychiatrists working round the clock thinking about you, having conferences, observing you, like the way they did with the Elephant Man. That’s what I’m talking about because that’s the only way you’re going to get better.” – Seinfeld.
Thanks
Who cares? I don’t care. Putting people down in effect elevates you, making you look better than everyone else, or at least some here on the blog. Wanna be the better man, quit the bash’in and share YOUR p-a-s-s-ion. Talk about what you have to say, not what somebody else has to say.
Despite what Hamlin believes 😉 it does rain at my house so far 1.26 inches of rain since it started which is more than double what was expected.I’m glad it wasn’t ice. 😀
Agreed have 1.21 in South Lex as well. No ice didn’t hurt my feelings at all. At least didn’t have to go through 7 days with no power like the last ice event.
You know I merely said it in jest. 🙂
the reason for the 😉
Many areas are getting needed rain today…good to see to stave off complaints of drought later on, perhaps.
5+ inches of snow in Columbus, OH. Ice just south of Columbus to at least the Kentucky line. The roads between Cincinnati and Columbus are a nightmare. US23 is closed near Circlevlle OH., due to power lines across the road and overall icy conditions.
Joe Bastardi is still trying to push his colder solution for end of February through March theory for our region, which most likely confirms that Spring quite possibly comes early this year.
