Good afternoon everyone. As usual, the winter weather fence is setting up across Kentucky, with snow in the north and heavy rain in the south. Sandwiched in between is a combo of the two, with some sleet thrown in for good measure.
Areas north of Interstate 64 will continue to see mainly snow throughout the afternoon and have the greatest risk of picking up on several inches of slushy accumulations. Here’s a rough look at what may wind up happening…
Those lines are NOT set in stone, especially when dealing with such a fine line in rain verses snow.Temps in the north are near freezing and the snow rates are overcoming the warm and wet ground. It may also snow fast enough to cover roads.
Farther south and southeast, it’s all about the heavy rain and flooding potential. A good 1″-2″ of rain may fall, leading to high water issues developing.
The blog is all set to do some tracking…

Streets coated in Floyd County, IN. Big flakes coming down steadily.
1 inch of rain so far in Knox
.67 here so far in Harlan Andy, but most of the rain has fallen less than hour since 12:50
I am over 9 inches so far month-to-date!
How much for the month at your house?
8.52 counting today
Some of the heaviest snow and biggest snowflakes I’ve seen in a long time in my part of Eastern Louisville! About an inch on cars and surfaces other than pavement where it’s a slick and slushy mess. Would be a lot more if not for sleet mixing in heavily at times. Stay safe everyone!
Almost two inches of rain in Taylor, County. Not one snow flake, just depressing rain and cold. This could have been a great snow event for the entire state. This has been an aggravating winter. You can tell that I’am depress today because we miss the snow. Not looking forward to the hot temperatures next week. We might as well say good bye to winter and hello to a most likely crummy spring.
Unless one lives in the high elevations, SE KY has been even worse for snow….practically nothing here for the whole season. I still think we are in a favorable pattern for a possible March surprise; I am trying to be positive!
I said goodbye to winter a month ago in WV. Matter of fact, I don’t remember saying hello because it never arrived.
Looking at temperature outlook for March and April Kentucky might even see a few more 80’s and summer might happen before spring.
I totally agree. The temperatures over the next several weeks are going to soar well into the seventies. Well, that is what you can expect in the Ohio River Valley, plus a hard freeze in April. I can here it now apples and peaches gone, typical. Maybe we will have a uneventful thunderstorm season, that would be nice.
Close to 2 inches in Sellersburg, Indiana. 9 miles north of Louisville
That’s a lot of rain
That’s would be if TW Allen was getting rain however that would be 2 inches of snow instead.
Pouring the snow here in greenup
Ground completely covered in Lewis co. Ky.
Flood WARNING is out now for my area and surrounding counties.
1.20 here now in Harlan and still pouring with, judging by the radar only, at least about 3 hours to go to clear my area. I should hit the 10.00 inch mark for the monthly total here soon!
1.46 here.
Not counting what leftover drizzle there may be my total rainfall today is 1.53inches and the month to date is 8.8 inches
Been snowing steadily here in Northern KY since just before 11am. Had no idea it was supposed to amount to this much. Had to cancel some things last minute. It is still coming down.
Rain, rain and more rain in my part of Richmond adding to the season total of 5 inches of snow and “way too much cold rain” for the season.
Everybody stay safe. 75 and sunshine inDaytona.
Here in Jackson County Ohio at least 4 inches has fallen and maybe more in places. Hammered it down this afternoon.
