Good afternoon, folks. Torrential rains continue to work across parts of Kentucky, leading to additional flooding and flash flooding. More rounds of flooding are on the way into the weekend, with the increasing threat for severe thunderstorms.
The current flood issues are across western and parts of central Kentucky. Numerous counties are under Flood Warnings…
This matches up well with the high risk area we put out yesterday…
Additional showers and storms move through tonight and Saturday, each bringing the potential for more flooding.
The setup for late Saturday into Saturday night continues to look especially troublesome. Strong to severe storms may rumble from west to east across the state. Here’s my map from a few days ago, showing the impacted areas…
The Storm Prediction Center has much of central and western Kentucky in the severe weather risk area, but this will likely be expanded as we get closer…
Damaging winds, large hail are the main severe weather contenders, but isolated tornadoes are possible.
A VERY similar looking setup is already showing up by Wednesday…
I will have the very latest on WKY-TV starting at 4pm, so be sure and tune in. I will also throw you another update this evening. Until then, let’s do some Friday tracking…

River forecasts for Louisville up slightly from yesterday; still, it appears many floodgates will be closed in the city and even out here in the ‘burbs.
Mike S : I had a response to your post from this morning as to why I don’t think the severe weather will be a major event, but Bailey wouldn’t post my findings. Everyone has the right to his or her opinion. I guess my opinions are not welcome on Bailey’s blog ? Makes me sad that I can’t carry out a meteorological discussion. So what’s the point of being a commentator on this blog ? Sorry, I can’t get the discussion through Mike, it was fun chatting with you this morning. Thanks
The fact that you are still able to comment shows you are not being censored. I had several comments not go through yesterday. The site’s mechanism for taking in comments and submitting them for showing could be experiencing intermittent issues. It happens.
In my county of Taylor, rainfall total since midnight is 0.14 ” Most of the heaviest rain is falling along and north of the warm front where the air is rising. I’m hoping that the severe storms will weaken as they move through the state tomorrow. Not ready for that kind of weather ever !
Convective showers going up in Harlan. It had already reached 76 before the clouds took over!
Lots of sun and very warm @ 70 degrees, very little rain in Taylor County this morning.
Dry weather here in Knox county and 80 degrees under mostly sunny skies
High pressure aloft, descending air. Can’t wait to view tomorrow’s forecast. In the meantime enjoy the early summer weather.
Can’t wait till winter returns.
If it does, it will only be brief in March and enough to harm agricultural interests. I can’t say I wouldn’t be excited IF we actually had a March blizzard but we have been warm too long now, which is why I don’t want it to return!
I am still holding out hope for one decent snowfall… we’ve had snow in March and April, so it can happen.
