Good Thursday and welcome to the month of March. The 3rd month of the year is roaring in like a lion with showers and thunderstorms, gusty winds and a late day temperature drop. Hang in there, some better weather is on the way for the weekend.
Today’s weather is nothing like one year ago today, as damaging winds and tornadoes were causing major issues across the state. Still, the potential is there for some local high water issues, especially across southern parts of the state.
Track away…
Winds this afternoon and evening may approach 40mph in gusts, with colder air settling in from the northwest. That could even spawn a flurry or two across the mountains of eastern Kentucky.
Friday looks much better with sunshine returning and temps in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Lows this weekend drop into the 20s, but our afternoons look really good. Sunshine will fill the sky with highs in the low 50s Saturday and mid and upper 50s for Sunday.
Another cold front then slams in here on Monday, bringing a much colder pattern for the first full week of March. The GFS continues to take on a wintry look…
Highs may stay in the 30s for a few days…
I will update things later today, so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
Thanks Chris!
Since early Wed morning, my cheap rain gauge is approaching 1.3 inches, with more heavy rain to the west (there are multiple Flash Flood Warnings in west Tennessee). At the risk of sounding over repetitive, stay safe everyone…..especially in Tennessee and southern Kentucky.
Today starts Severe Weather Awareness Week for Kentucky. The B-l-u-e-g-r-a-s-s State will have a tornado drill this morning.

Tennessee’s Severe Weather Awareness Week continues through this Saturday March 3. The tornado drill that was to take place yesterday has been rescheduled for the morning of Friday March 2.

Yeah, at work, we had a mandatory statewide tornado drill this morning. I am glad that we have only had one round of severe weather so far, actually none in SE KY, but it is not officially spring yet other than meteorological/astronomical…lol

I’m on #teamlatesnow as well. Spring can appear later.
I remember last year very well, Chris! I live in Northern Ky and a tree fell on my house and did lots of damage. My husband and I were home at the time and it was very scary!! So, I’m happy to hear today will not be like last year. Thanks for the blog!! I read it almost daily.

Looks like the flood watches are being cancelled little by little. Rainfall totals coming in much, much lower than guidance.
March can bring anything! Heat to snow. Rodger would love another snow-maker to perform. Rodger in Dodger
