Good afternoon, folks. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the dramatic weather changes blowing in this week. We are heading back into a wintertime pattern that will feature MUCH colder than normal temps and the potential for some of the white stuff.
In the short-term, we are tracking showers across western Kentucky. This action slowly spreads east into the evening…
This rain continues into Tuesday morning, but should quickly clear out of town. That leaves us with some sun, gusty winds and mild temps by the afternoon. Enjoy it, because that changes in a hurry by Tuesday night and Wednesday, as a bowling ball of an upper low drops in…
The end result of a system like this is usually snow showers and squalls. Watch how the rain shower action goes to the flakes for Wednesday…
Coatings are possible Wednesday and Thursday, especially in the mountains. With such a dynamic upper level system, I would not be surprised to get a thundersnow report this week.
The next system then rolls our way with rain and some snow by late Friday into Friday night…
Another “bowling ball” drops in this weekend and early next week. That could spawn another big storm system across the Ohio Valley into the eastern part of the country. The new GFS is a littler flatter than earlier runs…
I’ve got the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm, so be sure to check back. BTW… it was 6 years ago today I came back to WKYT. 🙂
Another update comes your way this evening. Until then, take care.
Thanks CB!
Main accumulative snow action would probably be north and east of us, just as all events that have been for the past two winters. We would need a genuiiiine blizzard system like in 93 to put Kentucky into the big snow zone.
Well that’s a incorrect statement. March of 2015 most of Kentucky got nailed with a 12-24 inch snowfall depending on where your located this was not a blizzard. March of 2014 4-5 inches of snow fell.
I’m pretty sure March of 2015 we had a river flood down here with less than am inch of snow. It’s like you said depends on location
Was referring to the type of system and temps behind it. 2015 was a different set-up of weather system ingredients and favored part of KY as the sweet spot. Need to be mo’ north or east to get the cold air support for a big one this time. What we got is looking in 2015 seems to be more to the north and NE. That area might get smacked- IF it pans out of course.
Glad you came back. Thanks for all you do on keeping us updated on the weather. I never miss a single update you give out. Have a great evening and week.
Happy 6th Anniversary Chris and thanks for all you do!!
Happy Anniversary Chris! Glad you came back and the folks at WKYT should be too! Thanks for all you do for us weather weenies!
Although temps are marginally too warm, next Monday has the “look” for a good wet snow hit but too much time left for model waffling yet.
Up here in Scioto County, Chris. Sure hated to lose you from WSAZ… but I know you’re happy!
I am only expecting a flurry or two in the Huntington Tri-state area. I have only received about a half inch of snow in the last two months. Last Winter set the bar extremely low with snow and this Winter just barely exceeded it by an inch.
