Good Friday, folks. We are putting the wraps on a rather wintry week by tracking another round of some winter weather. A system will bring light rain and light snow to parts of the state later today into Tonight. I’m also keeping a close eye on a possible system arriving on Sunday.
Let’s start with today’s system. Clouds will quickly increase with temps hitting the 40s before precipitation develops. A swath of light rain and light snow will get going this evening. A band of slushy accumulation may set up across parts of central and eastern Kentucky through early Saturday morning.
Here’s the updated odds on where that could happen…
A few inches are possible in a pretty narrow corridor setting up. It may be a game time decision in pinpointing where that happens.
Rain and snow moves away early Saturday, leaving us with a mix of sun and clouds. Temps hit the mid and upper 40s.
We continue see a spit in what happens with the Sunday system. The GFS is showing one low moving to Pikeville before “jumping” east of the mountains. This particular model run brings a wind driven snowstorm to parts of central and eastern Kentucky…
Is that scenario possible? Yes, but so is the scenario where the entire system stays too far south to do much around here. The NAM is saying that and so is the Canadian…
There could be one more little clipper diving in here by Tuesday or Wednesday, bringing the potential for another round of light snow.
Temps by the end of next week will likely rebound to normal or above normal for several days, but that may not hold very long. The new look from the seasonal models is for temps to average colder than normal from now through April 22nd…

My thoughts go like this…
I will hook you up with updates later today, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
As long as the Nor’Easter’s form, the more our weather here in the Ohio River Valley will remain uneventful. The March snowstorms look less likely for our area now. We are finishing another average winter, but I expect spring will be late due to the current Sun phase. The native plant life is still dormant in my area of Taylor County, but the early flowering trees which are not native were damaged. Does not pay to plant trees and shrubs that are not native to your area. As we get into mid- April and there after, severe weather will make it’s appearance in isolated areas of the mid-west and in the Ohio River Valley. Hopefully, we will not experience any widespread events this spring ?
My sentiments exactly Chris… I was over this cold weather in January. Its time for Mother Nature to quit allowing Old man Winter to call the shots…I mean yesterday was International Women’s Day after all.
#thanksleftism
spring, spring, where art thou spring…. I need your warm sunshine & your light breezes blowing through my open windows….. come out come out wherever you are…..
Ummmm…. it’s still March not May
I dont think he is being literal, you people crack me up
Very possible this gets upgraded to a warning for some counties. What’s interesting is if this was December there would be 100 comments. But now since its March no one cares nor wants it. Personally I would rather have it now because it will melt fast and cause no long term issues.. Just the way it is in this part of the country, we are much more likely to get a snow storm in Feb and March than in December.. at least in my lifetime.
It’s not that nobody wants it…just most of us are realists and have heard about so many “potential” snow systems that there’s no point getting worked up over a late winter system that is going to give about 10-15% of the state a healthy swath of wet snow. The rest will get nothing or very cold rain. As if we need any more rain!
Sadly, This. Still seems Sunday system is more south of us than not. NE is probably going get smacked again.
Mist folks gave up on this Winter during the warm wave of February. I actually gave up in late January after a couple 70 degree days. No reason for excitement, it will be a miss but more likely cold rain. Somebody might see a flurry at the tail end.
You give up on winter in August.
Liiking back, that was a smart decision. Maybe I will give up this year in June.
No need for panic my fellow spring lovers, its all staying south Sunday.
Bet on This.
Thanks Chris. Nothin more to say…. our weather is what it is, and we know that. Have a great Friday everyone.
Like Coffee Lady says….”our weather is what it is…” Harlan CO. is included in the advisory but the models are right at 0 for accumulation for tonight here…sounds CORRECT too
