Good Saturday, everyone. A slushy, wet band of accumulating snow is greeting some folks across central and eastern Kentucky as we start the weekend. As we track this winter weather maker, I’m keeping a close eye on another one possibly impacting our weather for Sunday.
This morning’s snow is falling in a rather narrow zone, but it’s coming down hard for some. A few to several inches of wet snow may be on the ground, but we are also looking at a heck of a sharp cut off to the snow on the northern and southern sides. I will have your tracking tools in a bit.
Skies later today become partly sunny with temps warming into the 40s.
Our next system rolls our way on Sunday, with the exact track being key to how much, if any, rain, snow or a combo you get at your house.
The GFS continues to be the lone model bringing this storm far enough north to impact our weather…
Most other models keep this thing to our south…
I’ll take the southern track and be perfectly fine with it!! 🙂
Regardless, it turns cold again through Wednesday, with the potential for some additional snow shower diving in from the northwest. Temps finally rebound later next week, but my fear is for another very wet pattern to set up after that. Ugh.
Here are your morning winter weather trackers…

Wow what sharp cutoff indeed just came from North end Fayette county( Heavy wet snow)to the home base here in southern Fayette county (raining). At this particular time the snow cutoff appears to be right over Fayette county……figures )-:
The air was so dry and main energy so far north, it didn’t even rain in Harlan last LOL. I was expecting temps to be too warm down here for snow but surprised to see no precipitation at all…bust?? Not really as CB called it correctly but Harlan should have not been issued under the advisory yesterday based on most models except GFS. It goes to show, advisories, watches and special statements are based almost entirely on GFS alone and this is what causes a lot of a weather events to occur WITHOUT warning when we need them, especially for flood events!
And this is why nobody was getting to excited/concerned about this system. Literally not a flake of snow in east Louisville near Shelby Co. line. Let’s close this book and move on to 2018-2019.
I live in the Eastwood area near Simpsonville. We had a little while of giant snowflakes/blobs coming down. It was around midnight I think. Nothing stuck of course.
According to the NWS out of Louisville around an inch of snow was about all to be had in isolated locations.
I think the band was thin to the point of being inverted 😉 Some slush snow in the late evening followed by cold rain in Richmond from 11PM onward.
More like minuscule.
Same for me in my part of Richmond — a touch of slush late night but just wet ground in the morning…
“thin to the point of being inverted” LOL That’s great
We have a winter wonderland in Flatwoods, KY this morning. ( greenup county) what a Beautiful morning! Everything
Is covered even the trees!
Your one of the few lucky ones the exception not the rule. Enjoy it take a pic it’ll be gone within a few hours.
It is melting but we still have snow and it is 11:00. I have taken lots if pics. A BEAUTIFUL morning!
Killjoy much?
That is awesome Sue! Enjoy it
I have taken lots of pics. We still have snow and it is 11. It has melted some but still BEAUTIFUL!
Band definitely set up farther north than forecast. A skiff of snow in southern Fayette after looking like we were in the sweet spot right up until midnight.
One inch of snow around Ashland, Ky…trees are beautiful.
I live in Flatwoods and it was beautiful this morning.
Another near miss.
The price we have to pay for a few snow flakes is awful.
Sitting here in balmy southern KY with the screen doors open and enjoying the sunshine. Looks to be a great day. Probably going to get the mower out and do some yard work.
