Good Thursday, everyone. Old Man Winter and spring are ready to fight it out over the next week. Vegas currently has the Old Man as the favorite. That’s because the overall pattern continues to be skewed heavily in his favor for the next week, at least.
Today is a very nice day across the bluegrass state. Highs will range from the low 60s in the west, to the low 50s in the east. Skies will stay mainly sunny, so let’s get outside and enjoy some of the good stuff.
The bad stuff is ready to roll back in here for the next few days. That’s when another storm system rolls our way, bringing an increase in showers and a few thunderstorms…
The frozen stuff looks to stay just to our north, as we are walking a fine line between winter temps and spring temps this weekend. Check out the temp spread for Saturday…
Sunday looks like a REALLY nice day, but that won’t last very long.
This brings us to another potent storm system rolling across the Ohio Valley by Monday and Tuesday. We have a slew of possibilities with this system, including going front strong storms to snow…
Wraparound snows would be something that could carry us into the middle of next week. Temps during that time will come WAY, WAY down.
This very active pattern likely takes us through the rest of March, and I think it keeps rolling through the spring. That can mean a lot of precipitation around here. The European forecast for the next 45 days has the heaviest precip right on top of us…
I will have another update later today, so check back. Enjoy he day and take care.
Yeah…more feet of rain to come…..without being sarcastic though, I would rather the weather be active over boring/dry but don’t want people to see flooding either. I still think we may end up with a bigger snow yet in KY, and if we don’t, it is late enough in the year now for me to find peace and let winter go:)
Thanks Chris, Let the battle begin ! One factor that could make this a long battle between Winter and Spring is that the solar activity is very low. This is my observation, that when there is an absents of Sun spots, severe Spring weather is at it’s minimum. The last time this occurred was in the Spring of 1965. I remember the trees didn’t leaf out till early May. Make it a great day.
*absence of Sun spots… you’re welcome
Thanks Ralph, I am horrible at spelling certain words, and I don’t think my post made much sense, so it doesn’t really matter.
Ignore that buffoon Ralph.
On yesterday’s date back in 1933 was a tornado outbreak that included a destructive F3 in Nashville…..somewhat similar to another F3 that would occur on April 16 1998.
But perhaps even more remarkable were several twisters that touched down in eastern parts of TN and KY, areas that don’t normally see many twisters. An F4 tornado formed southwest of Jellico TN near the KY-TN line. It narrowly missed Jellico but unfortunately made a direct hit on Pruden TN before crossing into Bell County, Kentucky. But this tornado dissipated before it could have reached Middlesboro (downtown Middlesboro suffered a direct hit in May 1988 by an F3). Also, an F3 destroyed much of the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee including Kingsport.
Interesting to note that the rugged terrain around both Pruden and Kingsport had little effect on those two twisters.
I believe that you can have a tornado anywhere no matter what the terrain. The conditions just have to all come together.
Well it’s beautiful out today, and Sunday looks to be about the same, if not a bit warmer? The days are getting longer, and I’m ready for warm afternoons and the green to come back! Spring needs to get ‘her’ big girl pants on and fight!
Interesting. Usually when we get the big warm and cold air battles CB also discusses chances for bad spring storms, tornadoes, etc. Not seeing that theme.
Okay, the cold air is still a main player- That’s why. No real chance to get energy built up. Kind of like a cold and wet fuse.
I’ve been hoping for a decent stretch of dry weather but it looks like I will not get my wish. The mud on my farm is the worst I’ve seen in the 12 yrs. I’ve been in KY.
We’ve been trying to get halts on our lawn for two weeks, but we can’t stream enough dry hours together to get it down! Chris, which weather gods do we need to pay off for a few nice days together?
What’s halts ?
I’m holding out for one more snow… it will be warm then hot soon enough…
I’am too
