Good afternoon, folks. We are on guard for some strong to severe storms to go up this afternoon for parts of central and eastern Kentucky. The greatest potential is across the south and southeast, with damaging winds and hail the main players.
These storms are developing just ahead of a low pressure, crossing the Commonwealth. There is just a bit of spin available, so I can’t rule out an isolated tornado. Here’s the current severe weather risk area…

I also want to talk about the Monday through Wednesday setup. Two storm systems roll our way, bringing everything from thunderstorms to snow. The first system arrives Monday with heavy rain and a few storms. Winds will also be very gusty as the low rolls right on top of us.
Another low then develops and works into southeastern Kentucky, with snow developing north and west of the low by Wednesday. You can see both systems well on the GFS…
It gets really cold again for the middle and end of the week.
A big model fight is brewing after this week. The GFS and GFS Ensembles are breaking toward a milder pattern that would feature flood threats and strong storms. The European and European Ensembles keep it cold with some more snow threats. I will touch on those later tonight.
