Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to winter… Ehh… Spring. Spring officially arrived at 12:15, but the forecast looks more like the heart of wintertime across Kentucky. Snow is developing in western Kentucky and will roll eastward through Wednesday, putting down slushy accumulations along the way.
After looking over the latest model data and current conditions, I can’t find too much to change to the ongoing snow forecast…
A few points to ponder:
- This is a slushy snowfall, sticking to grassy and elevated surfaces before anything else.
- A few roads may become slick or, temporarily, snow covered by Wednesday morning as temps go below freezing.
- The range in totals is because of pockets of higher totals and lower totals. This is not a uniform snowfall. Northeastern Kentucky has the best chance to wind up on the “under” side of the forecast. That’s where a slight “warm wedge” may keep the rain a little longer.
- On the flip side, areas of north central Kentucky continue to be the prime locations to watch for overachieving snows, hence the bump in totals compared to the rest of the state.
- Winds will be very gusty and may approach 30mph at times.
A Winter Weather Advisory is out for much of the state. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upgrade to a warning in the areas I’ve outlined…
I will update everything on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. Until then, let’s do some spring snow tracking…

Have a good one and take care.
Hopefully this won’t be a heavy wet snow like last week. I still haven’t finished cleaning up the broken tree limbs from last week’s storm.
Even though it’s officially Spring, I wont mind another heavy snowfall. Like the late meteorologist Marcia Yockey would say ” I hope it snows buckets “.
Thanks Chris. I say bring it, dump it, and then move on and let spring come on in! We will see. Have a great afternoon all. Bring it on, Chris!
A lot of trees are already stressed from the last heavy snow. With blooming started and leaves, that gives more surfaceon trees for snow to stick, so even more stress. Areas that got the last one wantt to hope they get less than four inches of heavy snow. If not, bunch more trees and limbs down and power issues. North of us can have it!
Light rain mixing with sleet here in East Louisville now.
Wow look at the temp difference in Pikeville and Lexington we are in the 50s while Lexington 35 I would say that will knock us out of the snow it’s really a frustrating place to live if you like snow.
I feel your pain. Living near Huntington WV this is a common theme with all snow systems in my area.
Temps are going to drop from NW to SE. Granted, it’s possible that you might end up on the lower end of the scale of snowfall, but You will get “some” snow cover.
Yep. It has not been the winter to receive the most out of any storm in eastern/SE KY; however, last week’s squalls did dump pretty good for Harlan and Bell☺
Heavy snow in Floyd County, IN.
Closing in on 1″ here in Valley Station already. Moderate snow and 32 degrees. Secondary roads are becoming snow-covered now, at least in my subdivision.
Close to 2″ on the deck here in my area of Louisville. Neighborhood streets are snow covered here too now. Snow still coming down steady.
