Good Wednesday, everyone. It’s the first full day of Spring, but Old Man Winter continues to flex a little muscle across the region. A Winter storm continues to cover much of the bluegrass in a slushy blanket of white and I have all the tracking tools your spring snow loving hearts can handle.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are out for much of the region to start the day…
Slick roads will be likely this morning, leading to a lot of cancellations and delays. The snow will slowly wind down from west to east today, with VERY cold temps continuing. Lows may drop into the upper teens by Thursday morning. Your tracking tools in a bit.
Thursday afternoon looks good with highs hitting the 40s, which is still well below normal. Friday is mainly dry, but a weak system dives in early on and may have a light band of precipitation along it. The afternoon turns out to be in decent shape.
That brings us to the weekend and another storm system moving in. This system dives in from northwest to southeast, focusing on a MEGA temperature gradient setting up on Saturday…
Thunderstorms and snow show up across the state, at the same time…
A stout band of heavy snow is going to show up on the northern edge of the precipitation shield and that MAY impact parts of Kentucky. Several models are showing this…
Depending on where that temp gradient sets up, that band could shift farther north or south. Sigh. I will touch more on that later today, so check back.
In the meantime, here are your spring snow trackers…

Cleaned off snowboard at 5:00. Nearly 8 hours after last measurement, recorded 1.9″ additional accumulation on top of the 2.8″ for a storm total of 4.7″ in Valley Station. Would not bother my conscience to raise it to at least 5″ due to settling.
You still might eek out another 1-2 inches, maybe.
Great call Chris, last night you lowered the snow totals in the Huntington Tri-State area. Got up at 6am, nothing on ground in Huntington or falling from sky. Only thing you might have been too generous predicting 1-2 inches.
Thanks Chris, Still snowing here in Taylor County. Light snow started yesterday around four o’clock est, with most of it melting till about eight, when it started to accumulate. At this time we have two and a half inches of snow on the trees and ground, just enough to make for a beautiful morning for a short time. This is the latest I’ve seen winter hang on since I can’t remember when. I’am ready for sunshine, and temperatures in the seventies. Looking forward to hearing about Preludes motor cycle rides. Have a great day everyone ! #teamspring.
At this rate the Harley will just sit in the garage until June.
No kidding. I had no signal on the tv and had to get the snow off the satellite dish this morning.
Snow total update : 3.5 ” in northern Taylor County. Snowfall total for the winter 27.5 ” I’m satisfied and now #teamspring.
6.5″ of total snowfall as of 6:45 a.m. this morning in Eastwood/Middletown.
I have six inches on the deck and it’s still snowing.
Iroquois Park area.
The heavier band is over your area. I wouldn’t be suprised to hear 9″ totals.
I have 6″ total with what appears to be the last hurrah in Valley Station
Almost an inch in north Richmond. Seems the storm theme is more for the Ohio river proximity area.
Good call. 🙂
No accumulation at all anywhere in BG…and I ain’t complaining!! BRING ON SPRING!
I can’t believe how dead the blog is. 10″ at least in louisville. Buses crashing in Nelson County. My road is completely shut down.
Same in Floyd, County, IN. It is snowing heavily.
Winds have increased some and am hearing limbs falling in the neighborhood. Power outages are increasing across Louisville.
About 1/2 inch in my part of Richmond… I love snow but this late in the season a wet snow can bring down trees – not a fan of that… so, not really disappointed.
Many trees and powerlines are toppling around Louisville Metro…some reports now coming in with a foot of snow in the city and also Bullitt County.
I almost can’t bring myself to read the blog because I don’t want to read that four letter word “snow” anymore. If it was Jan./Feb. I’d be happy about it, but enough already! It’s supposed to be spring! As wet as it’s been the last two months I’m afraid things are going to flip this summer and we will get no rain for the growing season.
That’s a real possibility.
I heard someone say this morning “the pattern flips next week” i’m ready for the other side of the bologna to get brown for a change.
Me too !
Back edge of snow (to the ENE of my location) is getting closer. Then again, about 4 hours ago, it seemed pretty close. At noon, I have 7.3″ and 20 hours straight of snow that has been weighing on my evergreens and breaking other limbs in my yard here at my house in Valley Station.
Also, I have more than doubled my snowfall for the snow season with this storm alone.
Nice! Happy snow day for ya! The 8 to 9 inches we got in Richmond last week made me a happy snow fan…
Maybe 2″ in east Lexington. Glad the bulk of the snow stayed along the river. Bring on spring.
