Good evening, folks. It’s a beauty of a weather day wrapping up, but Old Man Winter ready to throw another punch at #teamspring. A winter storm moves in later tonight into Saturday, and I’m calling this the “fine line” winter storm. Why? Because a few miles will make all the difference between heavy snow or heavy rain.
Even within the snow area, there could be some spots coming in on the lighter side, with other areas coming in on the higher end. Here’s the current call…
Again, those lines are adjustable, depending on exactly where this narrow snow band set sup. It’s not just the southern edge of this either. The northern edge may also be VERY sharp in terms of a cut off. I can assure you, the cut off will not be a perfect match to the map above. 🙂
Heavy rain across the rest of the state may cause some local high water issues.
A Winter Storm Warning is now out for parts of north central and northeastern Kentucky, with a narrow Winter Weather Advisory surrounding that…
I will hook you up with all your tracking tools with my late night post. For now, here’s regional radar to track rain into the region…
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Like the cutoff at Kentucky River. No mo’ snow.
Going to be interesting here in Northeastern Pike County about 10 miles from the WV stateline tomorrow, it looks like we are really walking the fine line. I’m expecting cold rain with possibly a coating but hoping for a last snowfall before spring. 🙂
I look for our regular cold rain.
If the northern cut-off wiggles anymore south, it may miss you after all Jimbo!
It is definitely going to wiggle away. Cold rain if anything. It’s discouraging being a snow lover in the tri-state, always so close yet so far away.
This is a actually turning out to match Charleston not needing a WWA or WSW, so I admit I was actually too critical of NWS there for not issuing an advisory☺. I honestly expected the boundary would shift back northeast a bit, even though I didn’t expect it to be as far northeast as earlier NAM runs. I really feel sad for you, even though we all know those who get a 6 inch + storm will only have it for hours top…lol
In other areas such as Harlan, I am working towards another foot of rain. Some data suggests over 2 inches of rain for my area tomorrow….yippie!
I am right 18 inches of rain year-to-date!
They look very wise in waiting. I was very surprised last Monday when they issued all those advisories and watches two days in advance. Especially since our history leans heavily toward rain and that’s pretty much all it did. We’ve had a lot of rain too but none real heavy and not close to your total. My snow total this year is about 7 inches just slightly more than last year…pathetic.
I am around 8 inches for the entire season with a little over half of that falling this month. Even Troy finally got a bit in March. People misunderstand Harlan by thinking we get all of the snow; however, unless you are actually in the 10% or less of the population that lives at the top of Pine or Black Mt, you never see it. In fact, the valley down here is usually warmer than the northern half of the state with topography inaccurately reflecting our temps much colder than reality on most weather maps…so I understand your frustration when watching the same areas time and time again get slammed!
Ask Troy, Andy and other far SE KY folks….we miss out 90% of the time or more too on winter events.
The mountains here aren’t high and don’t receive anymore snow than the valley’s. Not till you get to the Beckley, Summersville and Elkins line do the numbers sky rocket. I have made the drive between Beckley and Charleston numerous times in Winter and it is not a gradual change the snow line is literally like driving across a border.
Charleston meteorologists, both on air and NWS are pretty cautious and normally correct in not overblowing things. Living here, I appreciate that. I know they get grief a lot for not screaming that the sky is falling for every storm, but that makes me pay attention when they actually say to get prepared for something.
Southern Kentucky has yet to get any snow this winter. Nothing but rain all year and dusters. So I kind of hope everyone screaming for spring gets rain and cool weather till July ☺
yep, missed to the north, east, south and west all winter.
I almost agree with you as far as frustration goes watching central KY ‘hog’ all the snow time after time but I want to garden some, so I am ready for #FakeSpring to end myself!
Guess you could see nothing in your yard and walk over to your neighbor’s yard and see a dandy..lol. Been a winter of sharp cutoffs for sure..
It’s just a big wet mess lol #team cold rain forever
I quit!!
