Good Saturday, everyone. Another winter storm is rolling across the bluegrass state, bringing a narrow swath of heavy snow for some, and heavy rain for much of the state. As I’ve mentioned, this is our third winter storm to hit the state in less than 2 weeks. This March will go down as one of the snowiest on record for many Kentucky cities.
Here are a few quick thoughts about today’s system:
- We are walking a very fine line between heavy snow and no snow. That line sets up right on top of the Lexington metro. The best chance for snow is north and northeast from there.
- For those folks living near the transition line, don’t @ me if the precipitation goes against whichever form you want. 🙂
- For areas getting in on the heavy snow swath, several slushy inches may fall.
- Heavy rain will be noted across the rest of the state, with some 1″-2″ amounts. Watch for a few local high water issues to develop.
Before we get to the tracking tools, let’s talk a bit about the pattern ahead. Next week turns milder, but stormier. We will need to be on guard for heavy rains and a few strong storms.
The pattern threatens to turn cold again for Easter Weekend, with the cold hanging tough into early April. This is a cold look as far as the GFS Ensembles can see…
That’s just ugly.
Speaking of ugly, I will update today’s ugly weather a little later. Until then, let’s track everything going on with it…

Lexdome keeping snow away!
Nothing here in my area yet. I am close to Ashland!
Thanks Chris. Please tell the snow to stay north. Too late now for it.
But I would like for some warm, pretty weather to appear. From what I see you saying, that is not happening either…. oh well.
Have a great Saturday everyone, and try to stay dry, whichever form of precip you are getting.
