Good Monday, everyone. We are dealing with a much, MUCH milder week out there across the fine state of Kentucky. This mild weather doesn’t mean spring is settling in for the long haul just yet. A major blast of spring cold is on the way for the first week of April. Sigh.
Highs today are deep into the 50s for most of the region, with only an isolated shower or storm going up…
Temps for the rest of the week are generally in the 60s, but I can’t rule out a 70 for areas getting a day or sun. That may be difficult to find, with an increase in showers and thunderstorms ahead. This action starts to show itself more on Tuesday, then kicks into a higher gear for Wednesday. The NAM is spitting out some VERY heavy rainfall totals through Wednesday night…
The setup for later this week into the start of the Easter Weekend will throw a healthy storm system at us. That may bring a local flood and severe weather threat before a quick hitting shot of cold…
The rest of Easter Weekend is walking the tight rope between systems. The next one may arrive just after Easter Sunday, allowing for a decent day. Again, that’s not a certainty at this point. Whenever it arrives, the next system may take us from thunderstorms to very cold…
The further illustrate the potential for extreme early April cold, we turn to the GFS Ensembles. Here are the temperature departures into the early days of the month…
How about the start of the second week of the month? Here ya go…
From two weeks out, that’s a strong signal for colder than normal and it’s beyond frustrating. 🙁
Don’t be surprised to see some April flakes flying in this setup. That’s beyond frustrating, that’s just depressing.
Make it a great day and take care.
The wind is just about to blow us away.
I dont understand why the west has had several warm winters in a row and the east keep being held in the deep freeze. It seems the new Florida is going to be somewhere in Utah or Colorado. Will this cold ever end or should I make plans on moving west?
We went to Sunny Southern California last June for 5 days. We never saw the sun and had to buy coats to tolerate being outside. My wife wore gloves at the San Diego Zoo.
Well there you have it. Thanks for the update Chris. Have a great day everyone.
Local food?!? Is it going to be a tomato tornado?
Chris needs some sleep …”God Monday”, “day or sun”, local food” Can’t tell if it’s Freudian slips or a victim of predictive text.
It made me laugh…I know that!
I’ll believe flakes when I see them at this point. The cold will end soon, too.
My son was born 10 years ago on April 2. The day he was born was very warm and I actually walked around the block outside the hospital to get things going! When we brought him home from the hospital on April 5th it was flurrying! I will never forget it!
I think he means deep into the 50s! I don’t see any 60s happening today.
Its 60 here. I doubt we get deep into the 60s without full sun
It reached 60 again Harlan too, although the wind made it feel ‘crappier’ than yesterday.. ..sigh.
