Good evening, gang. Frost is on the way to the state tonight, with temps heading toward the freezing mark or a little below. This is part of a very chilly air mass pushing in on this final weekend of April. The weather as we head into Kentucky Derby Week does a 180 and brings us a taste of early Summer temps.

Let’s begin with the cold out there tonight. Lows may drop below freezing in many areas…

Protect the tender plants and vegetation.

Full sunshine will be noted on Sunday, but it’s not going to work very hard to help our temps out. Highs may stay below 60 across parts of central and eastern Kentucky…

Another frost is likely Sunday night and Monday morning with temps back into the 30s…

That’s an appropriate final morning of a very cold April. This has been one of the coldest March-April combos you will ever find across Kentucky.

Monday afternoon starts the warm up with highs reaching 70-75 for many. 75-80 shows up on Tuesday, with highs hitting the 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. That’s on a strong southwest wind that will also make it feel a little humid around here.

The threat for thunderstorms appears to hold off until late Thursday, as much of the action stays in the plains during this time…

Our best chance for showers and strong storms looks to come on Kentucky Oaks Friday…

The models are trying to push that front through here by early on Derby Day, which would give us improving skies and cooler temps. Still, it’s going to be a close call.

Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
