Good Sunday, everyone. Frost is blanketing much of the bluegrass state to begin the day and we are likely to see another round by Monday morning. This chilly air mass is about to scoot away and be replaced by a blast of warm air for Kentucky Derby week. Rock on! 🙂

Highs this afternoon will struggle to get past 60 across parts of central and eastern Kentucky. The wall to wall sunshine will certainly make for an awesome looking day.

Another frost is on the way tonight and Monday morning, with another full blown Green Thumb ALERT! Middle 30s to start the day will turn into upper 60s and low 70s during the afternoon.

Temps take off on Tuesday and may approach 80 across much of the commonwealth. This sets off our warmest stretch since last September, with highs reaching the low 80s for Wednesday and Thursday. This is ahead of a potent plains storm system that will also throw storm chances our way.

The first chance arrives on Wednesday…

This happens as a big severe weather outbreak develops to our west across the plains states. Those storms will then roll our way by later Thursday…

Kentucky Oaks Day on Friday doesn’t have a good look at the moment. Showers and thunderstorms are a good bet along a cold front moving in…

Some strong to severe storms can’t be ruled out by later this week.

Current indications are for that front to slide through here by Kentucky Derby Day, bringing mainly dry and cooler weather. As with anything in life… Timing is the key. Any slowing down of the front would mean storm chances linger into the big day.

Once into the following week, look for our cooler than normal pattern to try and flex some May muscle.

Have a great Sunday and take care.
