Good Monday, everyone. On this Memorial Day, let’s pay tribute to all those brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. To those who bravely serve, and have served our nation, thank you.
In terms of the weather on this Memorial Day, we have a continuation of scattered storms and steamy temps. These scattered storms are bringing torrential downpours, leading to local flash flooding issues. I will have your tracking tools in a bit, but we have to track the tropics first.
Alberto continues to spin toward the Florida Panhandle and is strengthening as it gets closer to making landfall…
What’s left of Alberto will then move toward Kentucky later Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing the potential for heavy rain and a few severe storms. Here’s the latest 3 day forecast from the National Hurricane Center…
Here’s are the areas I’m watching for the heaviest rain and possible flooding…
To the right of the track of Alberto, we will need to watch for scattered strong to severe storms developing. Here’s the area I’m highlighting for that potential…
Watch how well this remains in tact on the NAM…
That’s pretty amazing to see, as Alberto stays a Tropical Depression deep into the Ohio Valley.
Once Alberto goes by, we will watch additional showers and storms targeting our part of the world. We may even see a slow-moving cut off system working right on top of us into early June. That could become a heavy rain maker, keeping temps quite a bit cooler than we have seen for May.
I have you all set to track today’s storms. Don’t forget to use the interactive radar to track the storms across Kentucky, and to get a front row seat as Alberto hits the Gulf coast…
Make it a good one and take care.
Thanks Chris for the update. Yesterday evening we had a garden variety thundershower, which produce a decent amount of rain, which we needed. I’am waiting to see what the remnants of Tropical Storm Alberto brings to the Ohio Valley. Enjoy your Memorial Day and always remember those who have past on and all those who fought for our Great Country’s Freedom. Not just today, but everyday.
Thanks Chris. We got a good soaking last night with a little thunder mixed in for good measure. For the most part though yesterday was dry here. This morning, it’s partly cloudy and 69. I’m sure the humidity level is, too.
On another note, Thank You is not enough to say to those who paid the highest price for this country. We remember them and celebrate the freedoms we enjoy because they were willing to serve. Happy Memorial Day.
Richmond got very little rain yesterday and nothing the previous days. Laying odds on the same trend today and appears the tropical system is more for the western part of the state…. For now, anyway.
The odds are not in your favor this evening. 😉
First Alberto rain bands are hitting Harlan with a surprisingly heavy, steady rain, just started about 30 minutes ago!
Just southwest of Louisville, we just received a 5-7 minute downpour along with squally winds nearing 40 mph out of the east and northeast.
