Good Wednesday, everyone. The remnants of Alberto continue to work from south to north across the western part of the state, bringing heavy rains to this part of the region. The local flash flood threat is confined to western Kentucky then goes areawide today through Thursday night, as rounds of tropical rain producing showers and storms develop.
As the core of Alberto works northward into Indiana, feeder bands of showers and storms will develop across much of the state this afternoon and evening. The main issue to watch for is training of cells that can lead to local high water issues developing.
A few of the storms may also be strong. Here’s the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
As that system continues to pull away on Thursday, deep tropical moisture remains as another system works in from west to east late in the day. That may fuel additional strong to severe storms through Thursday night. Here’s the Thursday Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Torrential rains from the thunderstorms may cause additional high water issues into Friday. Unfortunately, another system may bring more storms for the weekend…
Let me be clear that it is NOT going to rain all the time over the next several days. But, when it does rain, the atmosphere can absolutely unload on some areas, creating high water issues.
Outside of the thunderstorm action, it’s a steam bath with temps deep into the 80s on occasion.
Here are your tracking tools for a stormy day…
Make it a good one and take care.
Thanks Chris for the update. My area in the northern Taylor County hills escape the full force of Tropical Depression Alberto. We had just a few showers and a steady wind from the east. What was most noticeable was the extra high humidity. I thought I left that behind when I moved here from the Ohio River bottoms. Have a great day everyone.
I feel this was a bit overplayed….I thought here in BG we would end up with tons of rain over the last several days, but somehow have just had hit and miss showers! Not even enough to cancel baseball games… I AM NOT COMPLAINING!! I can do without the floods 🙂
I agree. That energy coming in from the west could still cause us more problems area wide if taps the juice left over from Alberto than what Alberto actually produced itself. We will see what happens Thursday/Friday, but like you, I am glad most have been disaster free!
Well, May has been like August in terms of stickiness. Already dealing with 70s dew points this early? Looks like its going to be a long, hot, soupy summer..
Thanks Chris. We haven’t had a whole lot of rain from Alberto, but just watching the spin is amazing! It still looks like a tropical cyclone.
Looks like we are on track for a warm and wet month of May. Are we looking at breaking records again? It is rather sticky here, but I think
everyone is dealing with that right now…The severe threat is more concerning to me for tomorrow and tomorrow night. Guess we will see what happens. Have a great Hump day everyone!
With Alberto a dud for most of the the state east of I-65, I will predict the energy coming in from the west tomorrow/ Friday will end up producing a lot more widespread rain, especially since it will tap a lot of moisture! Dew points and lows stayed above 70 last night in Harlan. We should break a lot of records across the state for May monthly averages in a few days!
Just looking at the remnants of Alberto on the radar and the water vapor twelve hour loop. I must say this tropical storm has kept it’s shape beautifully. We have had one band after another since 11:00 am EST. Right now we are having a band of very heavy rain here in northern Taylor County and the storm is near Terre Haute, Indiana.
It is pouring buckets here in Somerset right now, hardest rain I’ve seen in a while.
So far for the month i have had 2.7 inches of rain which is below normal in my area for the month.
Same here but I have 3.92 with average suppose to be near 5 inches as May is one of the wettest months of the year. Just keeps going around me but, like in Feb, it will eventually hit me again. I think topography is the #1 factor that messes things up in my location of Harlan, shears storms to death here!
