Good Thursday to one and all. Alberto is now out of the way, but the tropical moisture remains across our part of the world. Throw in another system moving in from the west and you have the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms breaking out.
Here’s a breakdown of the day:
- A storm or two will be noted out there early today, but much of the action arrives this afternoon and evening.
- Clusters of strong to severe storms will develop and move in from the west.
- The prime time for severe weather is this evening into the wee dawn hours of Friday.
- Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats, especially across western and central Kentucky.
- Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
- In addition to the severe threat, repeat storms may produce enough rain to cause local high water issues.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will then continue into Friday. Outside of the storms, temps will continue to run steamy with temps deep into the 80s.
Saturday will find only a slight chance for storms around, with highs well into the 80s.
A cold front makes a run at us on Sunday and may fire up some strong storms…
Much cooler air then comes in behind this system into early next week…
I will update things later today. For now, I have you all set to do some Thursday storm tracking…
Make it a great day and take care.
Thanks Chris for the update. Looking at the energy to our west and with strong southwest winds aloft this could very well be a dangerous weather event just to the northwest of my county. Stay safe out there everyone and eyes to the sky. Looking forward to the cool down early next week.
Thanks for the update Chris! It seems we’ve been in tropical mode for the last week in eastern Kentucky. Hot humid days then a rain shower in the evening.
Would be nice to have a stretch of sunshine with no threat of rain. Not had too many days like that in 2018.
No kidding.
Thanks Chris. Hope the weather does. Or turn severe on us but a good thunderstorm is welcome. Next weeks temps sound great! Have a great day all!
Severe weather threat for this evening has been extended north and east, with an outbreak of storms having already formed in far Southern Illinois. Boo!
Severe storm looks like a big time lightning maker as it rolls into Madison County.
Wow, intense lightning in Northern Jessamine! The whole house shook twice and even made the telephones ring. Don’t mind a thunderstorm but this is a little too much.
Richmond under another severe warning now. Heavy rain and intense lightning.
More rain already this morning in Harlan than the whole week last week. I kind of figured today would be the day…..looks like a strong chance for widespread high water issues in places today and tomorrow.
that storm looks to have explode and moving really fast.. Almost looks dericho (spel ?) Like.
Gusts over 50 mph at my house in Valley Station. Sounds like widespread wind damage reports coming in from city and suburbs. I lost a few limbs. Nearby PRP along with Valley Station getting many scanner reports
Don’t know if it was a good idea for students to be dismissed during all of this….
We had a heavy rainstorm in PIkeville earlier!
Thankfully the garden got a nice drink of water today. 🙂
