Good Friday, everyone. We are dealing with a lot of steamy air pressing into the bluegrass state, and this air will help touch off rounds of showers and storms. That’s especially true as a front settles into the region and slows down.

Temps today surge into the mid and upper 80s for much of central and eastern Kentucky, with a 90 showing up in a few spots. Low 90s are possible across the west.  A few showers and thunderstorms may fire up later this afternoon into the evening, especially in the north. There is even an outside chance for a few strong storms. Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…

As out cold front settles farther south on Saturday, additional showers and storms will fire up across the bluegrass state. Some of those could be strong or locally severe…

I’m more concerned about the heavy rain potential this weekend into early next week. There’s a lot of moisture available for these storms to tap, so cloudbursts are a possibility once again. We will also need to be on guard for repeat storms moving over the same piece of real estate…

The pattern in the longer range continues to look much cooler, with a deepening trough developing across the eastern half of the country for the second half of June. Watch how the GFS digs a potent system in from the northwest next weekend…

The European Ensembles also show the cooler look starting next weekend…

Here’s the same run into the following week…
