Good Monday, folks. We’ve made it to our Independence Day week, with steamy temps and stormy skies controlling the weather setup. Rounds of storms on Sunday caused some issues across some areas, with today’s action having the potential to do the same thing, but with a little better coverage.
The plume of moisture coming out of the Gulf and into Kentucky is very evident and will aid in the development of more showers and storms today. Some of the storms may pulse up and become locally severe, producing wind damage. The main threat comes from the torrential rains. With an already soaked ground, it won’t take much to cause additional flash flooding. If you live in a flood prone area, watch water levels as storms rumble in.

Tuesday and the 4th of July will both feature a few storms floating around, but the action really picks up later this week into the weekend. Highs through the 4th will hit the upper 80s and low 90s, but the heat index is going to be MUCH higher. The heat index can reach the danger category on the 4th…
As mentioned, showers and storms become more widespread late week into the weekend as a cold front drops toward us from the north…
Tropical moisture interacting with that boundary may produce additional flash flooding issues. That front may also bring some welcome lower temps our way…

That video clip on the twitter feed of the storm in Georgetown looked crazy. I’m not surprised, I could tell it was intense. I heard the frequent thunder this afternoon but the most intense part was just to the north of me in Gtown. It was really HOT before that and it really knocked the temps down too for the rest of the day. My power bill is gonna be outrageous my AC stays on 71.
Hard to believe something like that was not a severe storm. We’ve had warnings for storms less intense than that one. At one point, over 5,000 folks had no power here. We had a hotel with the roof ripped off, a fireworks tent collapsed, and others were stranded due to trees being down in every direction on their streets.
Geeze, I received 2.15 yesterday to start the month thanks to the evening storm! I have half the monthly average after midnight on the 1st☺
Just a brief shower yesterday afternoon. Just enough to make it more intolerable. I would like to see just the actual high temperatures on the map and do away with the heat index. Reason, not everyone feels heat the same.
Mere drops in Versailles yesterday-not enough to register. Just goes to show how localized these storms can be.
Very heavy, localized storm in my part of Richmond right now… 4 – 4:30 in the afternoon. Must be at least an inch of rain in the last 30 minutes…
Dew point up to 80 in Paintsville, my goodness.
I had a small storm pop up right over my subdivision. It remained nearly stationary, perhaps drifting NNE. I received nearly 0.88″ in the Prairie Village area of Valley Station.
The areas around Danville and Stanton in Boyle and Lincoln counties respectively…wow, just amazing amounts of water. This time, Lincoln county Mesonet shows 2.31″ for the day. They have now recorded over 12″ during the past 32 days.
