Severe Storms Likely Friday

Good Thursday, everyone. It’s another mainly nice day across the bluegrass state, but the focus continues to be on a very active and cooler setup for the weekend and beyond. As we make the transition into the cooler setup, we have to be on guard for the potential for some Friday severe thunderstorms.

Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Highs are mainly in the low and middle 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. Humidity levels will inch up just a bit, leading to a few late day/evening scattered showers and storms going up…

Our potent upper level low will dive in here from late Friday into the weekend. We have set the stage for this for more than a week, with your apps and human weather apps just now catching on. 😉

Ahead of this upper low, we have the increasing threat for strong to severe storms from later Friday into Friday night. The Storm Prediction Center has much of the region in the risk area…

Damaging wind is the main threat, with the potential for isolated tornadoes. In addition to the severe weather threat, torrential rains may also cause local flash flooding.

Additional rounds of showers and storms will then carry us through the weekend as the upper level spins across the Ohio Valley. Heavy rainfall will again be possible…

Temps will be MUCH cooler than normal with highs in the 70s likely, especially in the central and east.

Another big blast of cool is on the way for next week and may be accompanied by another round of weather. Watch how secondary system develops after the frontal passage…

Have a great Thursday and take care.

It wouldn’t take much in the severe weather dept to make things interesting around here.

Thanks Chris for the update. Enjoying the lower dew points. At this time I am not too concerned about the impending severe weather for later Friday. Of course I will not let my guard down. All eyes to the sky tomorrow. Have a great day everyone.

Nice and chilly morning here in Harlan with a low of 59….been several weeks since I have slipped below 60. ☺

WPC is showing widespread several inches of rain possible this weekend through next week early for KY and surrounding states. Here comes the flash flood threat again!

Thanks Chris. What a beautiful morning this morning! Makes me want to play hooky from work, but I won’t. Would like to Saturday, too, in light of the rain, can’t do that either. Hope we all get the chance to get out and enjoy today and tonight. Sounds like it may be a few before we get another chance. Have a good one all.
