Good Thursday, folks. Our weather pattern continues to be stuck in place, with rounds of showers and thunderstorms rolling on into early August. This action really doesn’t show much sign of letting up any time soon. This also helps to keep the temps in check.
This sounds like the proverbial broken record, but any storm that goes up today can be strong and put down enough rain to cause local high water issues, mainly in the east. Your daily dose of tracking toys…
Scattered showers and storms will also be noted on Friday with temps in the 80s. The scattered showers and storms roll into the coming weekend…
Temps this weekend into early next week will be more typical of this time of year, but nothing really “hot”. More showers and storms crank next week as another cold front drops in from the northwest…
If we look longer range with some of the seasonal models, we find a continuation of the above normal rainfall setup. The European Model has much of the country with a wetter than normal look through the middle of September…
The CFS isn’t quite as generous, but has our region above normal…
One thing is for certain, this has been one heck of a wet year across the bluegrass state. That’s actually been a common theme over the past decade… both for rainfall and snowfall. The past decade has been very wet and white across the bluegrass state.
Speaking of snow, I’m going to start throwing some winter talk at ya in the next few weeks. 🙂
Make it a great Thursday and take care..
It could go the other way at any point.
Ahhh, August – my least favorite weather month. You’re finally here!
While I like experiencing our August weather, this is a more bland time of the year from a weather dynamics/systems point of view. If still not as bad as parts of southern and central California (must be so monotonous for tv mets to do almost the same summer forecast over and over).
I like to look elsewhere for more interesting weather this time of year such as the tropics, although the terrible wrath of last year’s tropical season was rather sombering.
Yea August isn’t necessarily my least favorite month but just in terms of the weather it is, with Sept being a close second. But you’re right, southern Cali must be a yawn-fest most of the year (other than their winter rains). But, the last few years, we have had tropical systems come through here during those times if I’m remembering correctly…..so it really depends from year to year – but overall I think it’s our two quietest months.
Yeah, August through November are USUALLY the driest months on any given year and are the months with the lowest average monthly rainfall in KY. Late October and November is still more exciting for weather though, in my opinion, than August and September as the threat for severe weather and early wintry weather makes an appearance at times.
Last few autumns though have been super boring with California like weather but this year might more active with El Nino developing☺
Enjoyed the rain being a non factor in my area. I have received 0.3 of precip since Saturday
Definitely rainy in Harlan yesterday but really didn’t amount as the heavy rain stayed east. 0.56 for me but that is total this week and nothing last week! Still above average on the year but seems the models are overdoing the rain in KY as most of the widespread, heavy rain has stayed east for a few weeks now, not compared to the forecasts!
Winter talk….snow….now your speaking to me!
Looking forward to the winter talk Chris!
